If it looks good and there is adequate strength and tooth structure remaining, then have a tooth colored resin restoration (plastic) placed in the access. If the tooth has darkened, it can be bleached internally (from the inside), and can be bleached in the future if it becomes necessary.
Matching a front tooth exactly is extremely difficult. Sometimes it becomes necessary for you to visit the lab technician (the person who makes the crown), to get the color as close as possible to the other teeth. A last resort would be to veneer the other tooth as well as crowning the one with the root canal. Porcelain can throw light differently than your enamel.
Most important....go to a really skilled dentist. Preferably a prosthodontst (a crown specialist). It is well worth the extra cost...You don't want to look like corn....

Hi Maria: If you have had a root canal, chances are your tooth will change in shade. You will seriously need to consider having it crowned. With the new materials and shades in the dental industry, there should be no problem with matching the color of your teeth. If the tooth is an anterior (front) tooth, consider having an all ceramic crown made. They are the most natural in appearance as there is no metal sub-structure. Depending on your dentist, it may be a bit more expensive but, I think you will be happier with it. Good luck!

root canal treatmet can cause color change in some conditions, because the tooth is not living any more (the nerve and blood vessels will be removed) so the consistency of the tooth will change and it will cause darkening of the tooth , in your condition you have three choices
1) make a composite filling which is white in color and the sheapest way
2)make a porcalein venner to cover the tooth from outside only (more expenssive)
3) make a porcalein crown which will cover the tooth completely and it's the most expensive
but the choice also will depend on the amount of remaining tooth structure
in all the three types of treatment the color can be choosen because the composite filling or the porcalein have different shades that can be choosen from to be in the same original color of the tooth or even better.
don't worry but try to find a good dentist

Metal inlayed porcelain crowns are the most difficult to match but possible. Ask your dentist to check into different materials. Glidewell labs in California have a great selection. I've had many dentists comment on my crown that was made by them over 10 years ago.
Its possible the tooth may darken with time. But you can always bleach, crown, or veneer at a later time. I'm a firm believer of keeping your natural teeth for as long as possible. Ask your endodontist or general dentist if you could wait a few months with a temporary filling before making decision.

Your dentist will match the colour of your crown with the rest of your teeth so don't worry. Mine took ages getting the colour right and it was only a back tooth that wouldn't show anyway.
