Go Shopping at used stores for the your wedding dress. I picked mine up for 200$. It was a beautiful dress. catering if you know someone who can cook. So that you will save a lot of money. Or just get finger food. No one says you have to have a great big dinner. For music. Ask you family or maybe you have one. Bring in a stereo. Have someone play music all night from Cd's. Halls if you are a part of the VFW or American legion. You can rent those for cheaper then most if you are a member. If not look around and price. Flowers do your own. Using fake flowers. If you have time wait till they are on sale. For your tables. Shop at the dollar store if you have one. They always have nicknack's and candles for a dollar. Watch wal-mart they always seem to run wedding things on sale. Specially in the off seasons. Good luck and congrats. By the way. My wedding ran about 3,500. It turned out like all the others who weddings cost more. Don't be afraid to take short cuts.

I live in New York as well and I have used the cheapest everything and I'm DIY flowers, Invitations, and personalized aisle runner. I am spending about 8,000.00.. You could get married at justice of peace and have a reception. The reception it self is about 3,000 at the cheapest where I live. At the reception you could have a cake-200.00, favors-100.00, most places decorate with the price of a each plate or buffet 16.00 p/p. That's all you really need and have a limo pick you guys up from the reception site get the limo for 2 hours that's about 150.00. Also Davids bridal has a sell every so often when the dresses are 99.00. Watch out for that sell! It will be perfect don't worry. Good Luck!

Everyone wants a wedding, if you don't have one, there will always be part of you that wished you had.
If you are willing to do the work your self, you can save a ton of money. Have an outside wedding, or if friends or family has a nice yard you can decorate up a bit. Have a family member who is handy in the kitchen make a cake. Rings, do you already have rings? because rings and reception are the most expensive parts. If done in a yard, a BBQ style is really nice and fun, the important part is that close friends and family are there to share in the experience, not the food. It is apparent that you have already made a commitment to each other, now it seems that you want to say that commitment out loud in front of friends and family. It can be done, we did ours for 3,000$ minus the rings.

I have to agree, why blow the money on a semi fancy wedding, do a justice of the peace, have a small reception at you home for close freinds and family...to hell with the honeymoon, you have been together for 6 years.
Put the money aside for emergencies or a family vacation next summer.
What really matters the most, the security of an emergency fund or a dress, tux, and overpriced pictures?

I dont know where in NY you are but I was thinking about getting married in Howe Caverns. Its very nice and they have a heart shaped rock on the floor to get married. You can have a small, sweet wedding. And I'm not sure about 4 kids, but they did tell me that my child would be free as well as the two of you.

Skip the meal.......have cake & dessert items only (you will save $$$)
Fake the cake (just search for questions: "Fake Cake") and save $500-$700. Everyone still eats yummy cake, but they don't know they were "Costco" sheet cakes and the 6-tiered "extravaganza" is made out cardboard, spray painted white, and frosted/decorated to look like the 'real thing'.
Use "disposable cameras" and skip the reception photographer.
Just don't skrimp on the wedding coordinator-DJ-emcee person who will keep everything going for a party everyone will remember.....
Even on a $3000 budget, you'll need to allocate about $800 for someone who is good at "multi-tasking" to coordinate the reception, make announcements, and play music at appropriate times.

I would just get married and screw the wedding..... you have 4 kids and they are more important then anything.
Maybe take the $3,000 and go on a small vacation like to the NJ shore with the family. You can get married on the beach and just have dinner with your family.
Best of luck!!

I would definitely recommend getting married by a JP and taking time for the two of you to go on a honeymoon...take the money and go to Tahiti or Fiji for 10 days or so and just relax.

http://www.theknot.com will assist you with budgeting your money. You will have to take a few things and not do them but a wedding for $3000 is definitely possible. We did our wedding with $5000 and it turned out beautiful.
Good luck and congrats!

The most inportant thifg is you are marring the one you love. So just go for a small dinner in a nice resturant that has a private room. I did that and it was great.
