Why have we not disabled these peoples abilty to create violence?
When I was young and would fight with my brother, my mom-a force to be reckoned with-would storm in, take our plastic swords and hotwheel racecar track, other weapons of destruction, knock us both in the head, no supper. That usually took the fight out of both of us. Why have we not beat the bushes until every weapon is rounded up? And anyone caught with so much as a slingshot gets their a_s_s_hole shook down. Has every weapons, munitions factory been disabled?
Iraq is not a developing democratic union, it's a battlefeild. It obviously wasn't one man who created trouble there. It's armies have faded into the population in neuve geurilla style. It's citizens are fighting for control, and they should be made to believe that they will not get it. We are patting them on the butt and teaching them to ride a bicycle, when they need to be standing in the corner with their arms in the air.

And for all you bleeding hearts, my grandfather fought in WWII, my father died in Vietnam, if we pull out of Iraq, a nuke is going to drop on Chicago, or Houston, or Denver. The aid needs to stop, the flow of oil needs to be under the complete control of coalition forces, and those people need to feel the Might and Determination of The United States Military.

Iraq violence will never stop it's a tribal nation made up of two religious factions. You have two opposing volatile religious factions-Sunnis and Shites. They have been at opposite ends of their own religion for years and will continue to do so. I really hate to say it but while they were under a dictatorship they were under some resemblance of control now that we have taken the head of their government the people are fighting with each other and with the US soldiers that they turn around and rely on to help them out. I think the Iraqi government that is currently struggling to gain power is beginning to strongly depend on us to be their police force, but it may be time to give them a wake up call. When the French helped us during the American Revolution they helped us then left us to found our own country, but we had a plan and we wanted to break away from Britain. The Iraqis don't have a plan and are probably going to milk our "support" for all they can. We can't be the parents of the world no matter how much people feel otherwise, we have problems galore here in the states and all of our resources are outsourced, we are stretched too thin to take away the proverbial plastic swords and sling shots. My cousin got back from Iraq this October he was in the Engineering Corp so don't call me a bleeding heart. I strongly feel that we should PULL BACK maybe not out to send a message that Iraq needs to make up their own democracy and police force and NOT rely solely on US.

Nobody in history has ever found a quick, easy way to go about nation-building. The U.S. experience on Hispaniola is a good guide as to what we might expect. Disarmament isn't an option, because (1) people have a right to self-defense and (2) we'll have to leave them with armed forces when we do leave, plus we simply don't have the manpower to do it, anyway.
I think we can do better in Iraq than we did in Haiti, but we had people (mostly Marines) there for pretty well the entirety of the 1920's and 1930's, and that's the kind of timetable that can always be expected in this sort of circumstance.

Because the American GI now has rules associated with this war. No bombing of Mosques, even though that's where the Terrorist's are hiding (This came from a Soldier that's there.) I think the US Military should give all war correspondents 24 hours to get out of Iraq except the Stars and Stripes guys just like the old days, and then go to work just like they did in France and Germany in WWII. Like William Tecumseh Sherman once said "War should be fought with no quarter given, It is the worst kind of hell and no rules should be applied to it, The Bloodier it is, the shorter it will be!!"

Actually my friend the answers to that question are both simple and complicated. We have not gained control of Iraq, and NEVER WILL, because we have failed to act with authority every time we were given the opportunity too. We have too many people in charge who need to sit down when going pee pee and we have not supported our troops enough. We have also failed to study and realize the socio-economic backround of that country. We want to EXPORT democracy to a society that has been ruled by religious law since its inception. People there have developed their own clans and are loyal only to them. There is civil war going on there as we speak. What are they fighting about? Mostly whatever the believe in and their religion. They do not want us there, they do not see us as liberators, they see us as occupiers. We will never change their political system, not now and not ever, and the more we think we will, the more casualties we will suffer because of it. And then of course, we have the politically correct folks who do not want to do WHATEVER it takes for us to finish that show and get the hell out of there. I could go on and on, but, it would be too long of a one way conversation.

First, as long as the world needs oil to maintain its civilization, it needs the Arab nations, and the Arabs have been at war with just about everyone for over 5,000 years. That's not going to stop just because we drop a few bombs or sacrifice a few of our young men and women. Every single large Arab nation is violent, or its propensity for violence is kept at bay by a gov't so vicious that no one dares to breathe in public let alone blow something up.
Their cultures teach, preach and reward all forms of violent behavior against perceived enemies (don't EVER believe that rhetoric about "peaceful" Moslems). Those enemies can be non-Moslems, Moslems who believe a different way, short people, tall people.
The guns are being shipped over the border from Iran and Syria by the truckload. The only way to stop that is to saturation bomb both those countries to keep them busy enough with their own problems that they forget to worry about Iraq's. Do that, and the oil stops flowing and our allies' economies come to a screeching halt.
The last generation of Arabs was trained by the Nazi army during WWII to fight the British and Americans who still held colonies in the Mid-east. That famous Nazi "anti-everyone who's not me" outlook was passed down along with the warfare training.
So - I agree, you now have several million Arabs who will go on killing until there is no one left, or until they are so beaten down they don't dare stand up ever again.

personally i feel that we can't gain control for a few reasons. the first one being that we can't sit down at a table and discuss with opposing sides what each other wants. how can anyone come to an agreement when you can't sit down and put your terms on the table to work out there differences. it amounts to fighting blindly with no end in sight. another reason we can't gain control is just like in Vietnam it is a guerrilla war. and we are undermanned and not equipped to fight this type of war. in a guerrilla war it takes a ratio of 10-1 to be able to win. that's 10 of our guys to every 1 of there's. we aren't willing to send that many armed personnel over there to accomplish this. right now we are using the bare minimum in personnel at this time. that's why we are having MARINES and solders going over for there 3rd and 5th tours of duty.

The United States needs to remove themselves from this turmoil over in Iraq ,it is only going to get worse and more lives will be lost. We cannot "win" this war. It is a civil war amongst its own people, and we as Amercians can and never will be able to comprehend their ways of life,or try to change them in any way shape ,or form.
It was a mistake from the beginning going in there to try and help people that do not want help, especially from us.
If we get lucky and leave ,maybe that country can blow itself up and the problem then and only then will it ever be resolved.

Because we gave them their plastic swords. We gave them A LOT of plastic swords.
They don't always get their munitions from factories specifically for them, often times it's from countries like Sweden, France, Russia or the like. They buy them from companies from rich Countries.
