I think this is basically a Catholic thing. They get the basic idea of Christianity correct, but they have a few views that some think are a bit twisted. Confessions, for one. You don't need a priest to intercede, you are supposed to pray yourself and ask for forgiveness directly to God, not through the priest, but Catholics don't believe that way.

They pray for the saints to be a mediator to God.
Bible says our ONLYmediator to God is Jesus christ.
1 Timothy 2:5
"For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus"
The bible also says the dead do not know what happens under the sun. No one in the bible EVER prayed to anyone but God/Jesus. EVER.

Religions with saints believe that prayers to saints are really to God through the saints - like the saints hang out with God, so they can put in a good word for you.

Jesus Said I am the way the truth and the life, no man comes unto the father but by me.
For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus" I Timothy 2:5
To me thats saying the only person you need to pray to is Jesus himself.

They don't know any better. Their religious leaders tell them it's okay, although the Bible does not approve of it. The Bible tells us to pray to God through Jesus. Jesus said: "No one comes to the Father except through me." How much more plain can you get? There are no other go-betweens.

St. Paul taught us that even "death" does not separate us from the love of Christ...and that "to be absent from the body is to be at home with the Lord".

We do not pray "to" saints - we ask their intercession be joined with ours....we ask them to pray for us. Just like I might ask you to pray for me.

If we take Scripture at face-value...then we should always pray for one another. Death does not change that. Theirs, or ours.

Okay say your sick and you ask someone to pray for your recovery its the same with the saints. They are our friends, who happen to be in heaven, and they are close to God so why not ask someone there to interceed for you living here?

I don't understand it either. As a Christian, you are only supposed to pray to God through His son Jesus.

yes, Jesus said he is the only way to the Father so we pray through his name. God is the hearer of prayer so it is only to him that we pray.

I always think that saints (catholic) are like the gods of hinduism...you know one for each thing. saint for the wound, saint for snakes, lost keys...etc----

for one thing, the dead cannot hear you...I wonder who hears prayers for them
