Have you been able to identify your problem source yet ?
Is it because of environmental trauma (like your home was trashed by Katrina & you're still living in a tent) OR is your world basically wonderful (safe warm home, loving family, good career) but you are depressed anyway ?
If it is enviornmental based, then you just need to keep bonding with others until the situation is resolved. It can be a hard struggle but the human bonds will pull you through.
If it is not environmental, then you maybe have a bio-chemical imbalance than could even be as simple as having a poor nutrition diet or being diabetic . Eat propertly and see a doctor for diabetic type tests first. Resolve all your physical health issues first to see if that clears your mood. I've even found my attitude way different after eating dishes cooked with curry & cumin (my head is way clearer).
So do you know the source of your depression already ?

Hello,

My opinion is, it depends upon the causes for becoming depressed and anxious in the first place. How long has the depression anxiety being going on?

No1.YES! you could consult a herbalist and yes! they can and do treate depression anxiety with 100% natural plant remedies. And Yes! this can work quite well if taken regularly as prescribed.

No.2 Find yourself a good therapist or counsellor and have some talking treatment.

No.3 Ideally, go and do both herbal remedy & therapy.

**Sadly, both involve fee's but you might find later on that it was worth the costs. How can you measure your happiness or lack of it?

**PS: do make sure any practitioner has experience and qualifications before any treatment is undertaken. Purely for your own well being though.

Best Regards to you.

Read the book: "You Can Heal Your Life" by Louise Hay and also assess the company you keep, the thoughts in your mind and whether either is lifting you up or putting you down. Dorothy Rowe has written some books as well but only as an explanation to the mechanics of depression and not as a tool for curing the psyche.
Cognitive therapy is extremely useful. It is an exercise in bombarding the brain with positive thoughts until the upward thoughts take hold and the negative thoughts are lessened.
Depression works in a cycle. Your mind is a tool to be used in any way you see fit. Your mind is NOT in control of you. You are in control of your mind.
You didn't say where you are from. If you're from London, the city can be quite trying at times and what passes for humour in a lot of circles ie; petty put downs, sarcasm, passive aggressive comments, justified with the disclaimer: "I was only joking", can be trying at the best of times. Try to be strong and think the thoughts that lift you and your surroundings up.
There is a controversial concept which I must say, I subscribe to and that is we choose to be happy, angry, sad or, indeed, depressed.
Think about it. You are the only person in your mind and whether you make the space in your mind happy and comfortable or angry, guilty and depressed is up to you. Depressed people tend to carry alot of guilt and have an inflated sense of responsibility.
Read the books I stated above and give yourself a break.

I have suffered social anxiety like you. The best way is to confront your fear and you will get better. We all have a fear of something know matter who we are or how confident we might appear to other people. I was on prozac until the end of last year. I stopped voluntarily after taken them for a year and going for counselling like you. I take no anti-depressants now, i exercise a lot and feel a lot a better after a good workout than any anti-depressants i have taken. You have your whole life in front you. Give yourself challenges to overcome, do the things you enjoy most. Good luck.

Most therapists will tell you that the best way to cure disorders involving depression or anxiety is a combination of psychotherapy and medication. I am actually in this same sort of situation. I have an anxiety disorder and am currently seeing a therapist and so far refusing to take medication. Next week, we are supposed to go over different relaxation techniques and see what works for me. So, i don't know if you're open to seeing a therapist, but it seems promising to me.

Exercise will help. Increased exposure to natural sunlight helps some people during the winter, too.

But if these don't work, don't rule your doctor out. He/she may well be able to help you with a prescription. Some cases of depression are chemical in nature, and no amount of sunlight or exercise will compensate for that.

I agree with what everyone said;

self-help books You Can heal Your Life by Louise L Hay

Yoga

Deep breathing exercises (simply take a deep breath, hold for a few seconds, inhale more, hold & release) if you have sever anxiety, do this every few hours

Take a multi-vitamin supplement (avoid commercial ones, go to health shop 4 advice)
Magnesium (on empty stomach in the morning)
Calcium (separate of magnesium)
5 HTP
Niacin

Therapy is also good. I know you can have CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy) on NHS ask your GP or you can see one privately. Hypnotherapy is also good.

also one thing I found very helpful is healing, to find a centre nearest to you:

http://www.nfsh.org.uk/component/option,com_wrapper/Itemid,70/

They are very gentle & kind & work on donations only (as they have to pay for renting halls etc).

Hope this helps,
with luv

There are multiple kinds of disorders that deal with anxiety. Although most can manifest in similar ways, these disorders generally occur due to different events in your life. Natural home remedies for anxiety https://tr.im/hRbf0
Generalized anxiety disorder includes persistent and unnecessary worries about everyday, common events or activities, which can disrupt concentration and lead to other issues, such as depression.
