If the cancer involves the lowest third of the esophagus the prognosis is worst. In general though the prognosis for cancer of the esophagus is not good. As with all cancers there is a very great deal of variability from person to person and cancer to cancer. Indeed much has to do with at what stage the cancer was identified and whether or not it has already spread. I would hope that your question is a matter of information and that you do not yourself have this cancer. In all things I wish you the very best of luck and health.

If you have already been diagnosed with esophageal cancer, then you will probably have a biopsy done to see if it either low grade or a high grade lesion. If it is a low grade lession, expect on going to the hospital every three months for endoscopy/biopsies. If you pass the year marker, without anymore problems, you will most likely go only every year. If you have a high grade lesion, they may want to remove part of or your entire esophagus.
