Please help. I'm looking for animation software - and although I, Robot isn't animated I thought the visual effects were amazing and thats the sort of thing I was aiming for.
I want to know what software they used to design the robots "look". Does anybody know?

There are two popular software for 3d animation and stuff like that.. one is 3d max, and the other one is maya.. .. try googling 3d max or animation software, you will get infos about animation. It takes pretty much talent to learn this stuff, specially embeding effects to the main movie, enhancing it, frames, etc.. etc.. stuff like that.

Most likely AutoDesk (recently Alias) Maya.
