My mom makes bread from scratch almost every week. No mixes, no breadmaker. She mixes a big batch in a Bosche brand mixer and lets it rise, punches it down, then separates it into 4 large loaves, lets that rise and bakes it for about 40 minutes. It's absolutely heavenly. She makes homemaid dinner rolls almost every weekend too. I'm spoiled.

I make bread at home without a machine, but usually use a packaged mix.
Red River Potato Bread mix.
Oh my gosh....that sounds sooo good! I will have to go make some right now!

My mum's freshly home baked bread is to die for and I'm sure would give your wife's a good run for her money.
I however only make bread using the breadmaker and although it is nice its not quite the same as making it yourself

I was going to say what he said, buy a breadmaker, they're realitively inexpensive. They also usually include some recipes, if not, buy a bread making cook book.
