Celexa or citalopram HBr is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor used to treat depression. It is pretty effective, but as with all antidepressants, results vary from patient to patient. This type of medication does tend to have a lower risk of severe reactions than tri-cyclic antidepressants. It generally isn't used for extended periods of time, since proper medical studies on long term efficiency hasn't been established to my knowledge.

Citalopram hydrobromide was originally approved for the treatment of depression. It was subsequently given an indication for anxiety. I believe that it only relieves anxiety that is due to depression althoug many physicians believe that it is effective for primary and generalized anxiety disorders. I do not know that you need to take it for 28 days and most likely you were told that it typically takes 2 to 4 weeks to work and you may require an increase in the initial dose. If it is successful in most cases it is taken long term and generally life long. It is a perfectly good medication. It is generic and relatively inexpensive. It is as effective as anything else. It is not habit forming although some people suggest that the dose be decreased gradually when it is stopped. It has a reasonable low incidence of side effects. I hope that this is successful for you and that you enjoy good luck and health in all things.

I took these tablets for a few months to help me through a bad time, it depends very much on the dose you are perscribed I started on 10mg per day then increased to 20mg per day my doctor said they would ease my panic attacks more or less straight away which they did but for the depression side of things they take I would say roughly six weeks to make a difference, but I found once I got my anxiety under control the depression lifts with it, depending on your situation if theres still no effect they can alter the dose to suit your needs until your feeling better good luck and remember what your going through now wont last for ever you will start to feel better!

Citalopram, often marketed in the uk as cipramil is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor.

I was prescribed them when suffering from depression/anxiety. They worked very well for me although they didn't kick in for a fortnight so I am not so sure about the advice to take them for only 28 days. They could make me feel a little light headed and i felt some tingling at the tops of my jaws.

The best thing they did for me was to stabilise my mood enough to allow me to get to grips with cognitive behavior therapy which was what really helped me to get out of the hole I was stuck in.

I work in a care home for clients with mental health issues. Some are prescribed Citalopram. Theres no harm in you giving it a try. There are lots of antidepressent medications out there and some work for some people, some dont. Its all about finding the right tablet for you.

I was on them a while back - not sure that 28 days is long enough for them to actually do anything though - they can take 14 days or more to take effect. They can work but you have to give them time. They gave me the runs and you might want to change that to taking one at night if you get problems. If you feel they dont work in 14 days go back to your doctor as they can alter the dose or give different medication. To be honest they didnt do anything for me and I swapped to another tablet. Good luck xxxxx

I've been taking them for 5 years now. Without them I would be so depressed I couldn't function. They allow me to be who I truly want to be without having to be depressed or anxious all the time. I can work, I can socialize, I can function at a level that most people do everyday. Without them I would most likely be so depressed I wouldn't get out of bed in the morning. I really notice it when I miss taking them. I get very emotional very quickly. If you get side effects, it will only be for the first few weeks but they will go away if it's something that will work for you. Good luck.

I was prescribed these to help treat the depressive side of my illness. I found that they just made me tired all the time & didn't help improve my mood any.
Each person reacts differently to medication though so you may not have any adverse effects & they may help you out.You just need to communicate with your Doctor.
One good thing about them is that they aren't fatal in overdose. I took 56 one day and they just spaced me out a bit. I felt really calm the next day though.

citalopram is an antidepressant which causes reuptake of serotonin in the body. it's commonly prescribed these days for anxiety and depression and alledgedly has fewer side effects than older types of antidepressant. it can take two weeks to have effect so it's important you don't give up on it in this period thinking it's not working.

Yes they are. I used to take citalopram and propranolol. What mg are you taking? They can up your dosage if you feel they aren't working. I had no side effects and I took them with propranolol and diazepam to control my anxiety. Citalopram takes about three weeks to work, mind you.

Talk to your doctor if you have any other queries. xxx
