I want an honest opinion from My fellow Canadian citizens as to whether they agree as to why canada has gone to war to assist the Americans in a fight that is not really our issue. Remember the facts. America went to iraq to find weapons of mass destruction and found none. They kill more civilians than soldiers.

Oh boy.
First off we're in Afghanistan and not in Iraq.

I can see how confusing that may be... Secondly it's not a war so much as helping to rebuild a society that has been war torn for many years.

We're also not there to peacekeep, contrary to popular belief.

We're there rebuilding roads, training army and police, helping the country to stabilize so that they can have a bright future.

By the way, it is our issue. Afghanistan is a humanitarian issue, and Canada is not the only country there. There's also the british, the dutch, the german and the americans to name a few...

Also, we sent our soldiers to Afghanistan. The parliament we elected, elected to send our troops on this NATO mission...

Now, the other misconception you have is about the american army. They aren't killing the civilians, it's the insurgent terrorist groups that are. Unfortunately the US Army is having a very hard time controling these militant groups. (as would any other country) though bush's intentions for going into Iraq may have been slightly off base, the reason the americans are there now is comepletely honourable.. they're trying to stabalize the country. The mission is just more difficult than they had planned. The Americans leaving Iraq now would leave that country in shambles, and cause even more people to turn against the Americans, and give them a very bad humanitarian reputation, not to mention the horrible state Iraq would be left in.

Anyhow, you need to remedy your ignorance of both situations.

The Iraq war was a revenge tactic of George Bush's and Canadian troops were not deployed. I think most educated people object to war and we must support our troops regardless of our personal feelings. They are there for the right reasons. The death toll is too high for every country not just Canadian troops. Any other countries crimes against Humanity is every country's issue and if you are not able to get that then stop protesting something beyond your understanding.I am Canadian and proud of it. I don't believe in killing civilians but their leaders have the blood on their hands not troops. I don't want to live in a world where another nation would leave you stranded when you are in trouble. The Taliban in Afghanistan needs to be annihilated and I don't care which country does it. By the way Canada is not there peace keeping , like it or not we are at war.

Um...You might want to actually talk to some people who have been over to Iraq before making any snap judgements based on the doomsaying of the mainstream media. As to the whole issue of WMD's, we DID find them. All over the place. Canisters of Liquid Mustard, Sarin, Soman, Tabun we littered all over the country in weapons caches. Of course, chemical agents aren't really WMD's as far as the media is concerned, especially if our finding them damages their credibility, so such things never got reported. If you think the same way, consider the fact that one of the seven canisters of Sarin our scout platoon found outside of TQ was capable of killing the greater portion of a small city. I'd say that's a weapon of mass destruction, wouldn't you?

On another topic, I never got the opportunity to interact with any Canadian troops while I was in Iraq, but I would like to extend a personal thank you to those troops from one Soldier to another, wherever they may be, and I wish them a safe return to their homes and families.

To the questioner: Will this war become an issue of the Canadian people when the insurgent groups are able to export terrorism to Western countries after we callously pull out of Iraq, freeing up hundreds of insurgents to pursue the citizens of other countries?

Have you seen the bodies of these civilians that we have supposedly been murdering in the millions? That would be a BIG pile of bodies to have to cover up, if you could cover it up at all. Funny, I never saw fields littered with millions, or even hundreds of bodies while I was there. Where are all these millions? Smells like BS to me...

Think about it: We're only "losing" this war because the media says we are. All of us who have been there know who's really winning, and it isn't the insurgency...

the Americans were attacked on their soil and people from all countries were killed including Canadians
it is like others have said and our politicians also said we will not help with Iraq but yes we will help with terror that is why we are in Afghanistan
btw the other wars we were in were to help the Brits and the rest of Europe not just the Americans
so the question is do you
"SUPPORT OUR TROOPS"

Being that we are not in Iraq, but in Afghanistan. A little more clarity on your question is needed. No WMD were ever expected to be found in Afghanistan.

Go cry to your gov. then...not here, I give you no sympathy.
Fact is, yes, you dont represent more than one Canadian, but if you guys wanna leave....LEAVE! We will still be doing D-Days, and providing the force against whoever threatens the freedoms or sovereignty of people and/or countries. Including yours there in Canada.
No nation on earth has balls bigger to face whatever comes to shake our resolve, we have history to tell us that. So, you're claim is ********....but thanks for giving us Triumph, Rush, and Gordon Lightfoot.

At the end of the day, I still Thank ALL the Canadian troops who have balls to fight and not ***** about it.
