Please discribe an Atheist to me, i wanna know?

An atheist is someone that sees no reason to believe in a god. Most are open to the idea that there may be one. However, until they see even a single shred of evidence that such a being exists, they will not simply "believe" in one, because someone else tells them to, or because it would make them feel good to do so.

In addition, most atheists became atheists by studying religion. Many of us have a religious background, in fact. In studying religion, however, it is easy to understand why all of the major religions in the world are false.

Not only do we see no reason to believe in their gods, we, in fact, see MANY reasons why we should not.

It can be PROVEN that the major gods worshipped today, as they are described, do not exist. To confront one of the believers with this knowledge, however, will cause them to simply backpeddle, and/or "reinterpret" what their holy books tell them. In essence, one cannot defend these religions, when confronted with the facts about them. One can only dodge the issues.

Unfortunately for them, they are quickly running out of places to dodge.

Edit - Mary's Daughter is not an atheist... and she does not know what she's talking about. :) Sorry, but don't be misguided by what Christians THINK we are...

There is a difference between an atheist and an agnostic which merits further explanation here.

An agnostic is a person who believes that there can be no proof for or against the existence of God, but will admit for the possibility of the existence of God. Unfortunately, I cannot think of book or movie character who is a true agnostic.

An atheist is someone who claims that he/she does not believe in God. Since this position cannot be proven, there is something more beneath the surface in such cases as you can imagine. Very often, these people were born and raised believing in God--or they were introduced to God for a significant period of time in their lives. More often than not, deep down atheists actually do believe in God despite their claims to the contrary, but they are angry with Him and rather than dealing with their feelings and sorting it out, they find it easier to say that "He does not exist" and blow it off. It does catch up with them at one time or another, however. They are never at peace with this decision.

A great example of an atheist is Mel Gibson's character in "Signs." He claims to have lost his faith and he pays quite a lot of lip service to it and goes into detail about how God would seem to be a fantasy, but by the end of the movie even before Gibson's character sees patterns in his life indicating God's existence, it becomes evident that he does believe in God, and he is very, very angry with Him.

A person who doesn't believe in any god. That's it, really. The person above who says something about how they're all depressed and never smile is wrong. Most of the Atheists I know are quite happy, fun people who smile all the time. So there you go.

They like being by themselves. They dont believe in God. They act like they are depressed and have nothing good to do. And they never smile.
