My boyfriend has 4 shotguns for foxing and rabbiting. He has to have them safely looked away in a cabinet, he won't even tell me where the keys are. The cartridges have to be put in a seperate case too way from the gun. The police inspect our house every so often and his licence has to be reviewed, You are not allowed to have a handgun full stop, that is illegal. I have a link about airguns below. If you are under 14 you can use one only if you are with someone over 21. Oh I also found this:Muzzle loaders are now the only legal useable handguns available to UK shooters
I was reading a comment below, you can have a shotgun if you are under 21 my boyfriend had them when he was 19. He has 4 and 2 air rifles, you can still shoot foxes but you must not use a pack of dogs to help flush them out. He keeps all his guns in our basement so you don't need to find storage place elsewhere.

Yes they are but come with conditions. I will list a few for you.
Shot guns - You need a shot gun certificate, but you n eed to apply to the Chief Constable of the force you live in - again there are a few rules and strict regulations and in the application it is for you to prove that you need a shot gun and the reasons why.
Rifles other that air rifles, are a whole different ball game, you can have one but would will need a Firearms licence - very strict guidelines with these.
Air rifles as long as they are standard .177 or .22 with the gas power Lb/psi not exceeding a standard maximum amount then you can go and buy one, but again there are rules about this. Age limits for who can use it, you can not give it as a gift to someone under the legal age, carriage of it in a public place it must not be loaded and must be covered, if it is not covered ie in a bag then you can not have ammunition with it.. Using it on land not belonging to you - big no no unless you have written permission from the land owner on you at the time. Shooting beyond the boundaries of your land.

An immigrant from England, who was trying out a new .30-06 at a shooting range in America some time ago, told me that in England he was only allowed to own a .22 caliber rifle. Most firearms are outlawed. Most of them still out there are in the hands of criminals, mostly drug dealers. Violent crime has been steadily increasing, and the police can't do anything about it.
If Hillary Cllinton, Charles Schumer, Ted Kennedy, Dianne ("Turn them all in, Mr. and Mrs. America") Feinstien and Nancy Pelosi have their way, America will soon be in the same shape as England, Canada, and Australia. The only thing holding these left-wing radicals back right now is President Bush's veto power, and it's only good for two more years. So start doing something about saving your Constitutional right to own and bear arms RIGHT NOW, before it's too late.

Air rifles were legal for anyone over 16 to carry around as long as they were in the "broken" position. After a few children were carelessly killed I'm sure it changed meaning you have to have a licence. Same with shotguns, you have to have a clean criminal record to obtain a shotgun licence. =) hope that helped slightly!

Britain has been systemmatically disarmed and the population neutered over tha past 60 years or so.
It is virtually impossible to legally own a handgun and any other type more trouble than it is worth.
There is a well publicesed case here of a farmer who used a shotgun to shoot dead a burglar who had broken in to his home one night.
The farmer went to prison.

it is possible to own just about any type of weapon in the uk but you have to have a good reason (i like target practice or i do competion shooting usually does the trick) and you have to have a secure storage area, and i am pretty sure the only places to get that sort of storage is to apply to the ministry of defence for permission to store it at you local military armory and thats the only place secure enough that i know of. In the armory on the camp i am based at, they have all types of weapons like ak47, m16, rpg, and these all belong to individuals and not the army. hope this helps. :-) oh by the way you can only fire a weapon of that kind on ready built ranges and you cant just walk into your local woods with an ak47 and start blasting at birds and passers by.

in the uk anyone over 16 can have an air rifle but it must be in a case to carry it in public place and you need a licence to own a shot gun which you need a police criminal check.

over 16, you can have an air riffle, under 16 you can not.
you want a real gun? no, you can not have one,
you want a hunting gun?you might get one if you are over 21 and have a clean criminal record (there is a ban on foxes, remember?)
you know what? stay away from all of them, they only bring troubles
