As of January 23, 2007 you need to have a passport to enter the USA via airplane, bus, train, or boat. Coming from Australia, I would say you will be arriving either by airplane or boat, so you will need your passort if you will be coming after January 23, 2007.

If you are coming to the USA as a tourist you need a tourist visa. But your best bet is to check with your travel agent and they will inform you better... You have a nice trip and welcome to the USA..

If you are just coming as a tourist all you need is a passport, no visa.
