i think it depends on what ingredients you already have.

for example, the other day i was going to make some cookies, but in order to do that i would have had to buy flour, sugar, brown sugar, etc., all of those simple ingredients that most people already have. so, for me, it was cheaper to just buy the instant cookies.
now, the other day i bought those staple ingredients i mentioned before and of course, they lasted through my last batch of cookies and will last for another batch or 2.

so, if you have to buy ALL of the ingredients, and it's only for 1 batch of cookies, then just buy the instant ones.
however, if you making many cookies, then buy the ingredients, b/c all of those staple products will last for many batches!

take care and happy baking!!!

its cheaper and easier to buy the cookie dough. if you are buying the sugar cookie dough...to make it taste less store bought and more homeade, add a little flour to the dough and a teaspoon of vanilla extract! the flour thickens it up a bit and the vanilla adds that homemade flavor!

Make your own! You get more cookies out of one batch of toll house cookies than those packages. Plus, once you buy the flour, eggs, baking powder and sugar, you have enough to make several batches of cookies. Baking ingredients are cheap and home made wins every time.

Depends: If your doing this for children, it is cheaper to buy. Preformed into shapes...etc. When making for adults, the true taste of all the butter, sugar etc is well appreciated. I do both being a class parent, I have tried this several different ways...the kids don't really notice the extra effort...hope this helps

I'd rather make my own because they taste so much better. It may be more expensive if you use real butter. The taste is worth it.

I'm with your first answerer there - make them yourself, and the taste will be MUCH better than "store-bought."
