Do what I do...

...answer the phone and ask the caller to hold on for a second. Put the phone down and forget about it for 10-20 minutes. You might want to check back more often with "You still there? Just hold on..." and put down again.

This has provided hours of mindless entertinment to me and my family.

Register your phone number with the Do Not Call Registry. You can do it online by going to www.donotcall.gov It worked for me!

Get caller ID and when you get one of those calls, don't answer it.
If it really bugs you, get rid of the darn phone, go celluar.
