What firearms do the British Police use?

While it is true that most street level British constables do not carry side arms there are many who do. There are armed police officers in the UK because the proliferation of weapons among criminals is rampant and weapons are fairly easy to obtain in France and other countries. they are also have armed squads who are like SWAT unit who respond to calls that involve guns.

Your average beat officer is not armed, except for the Asp and CS gas. The metropolitan police have their Armed Response Unit called SO19. There are different departments in the Met called Speciqal Operations (SO) and Technical Operations (TO). They use a variety of weaponry for different roles.
1. HK MP5 + SD Model
2. Glock 17
3. Glock 18
4. Remington shotgun (with Hatton rounds for door removal)
5. Nicknamed Ferret Gun (fires CS gas)
6. Various Long range Rifles.
These guys are your Armed Response

There are also airport police who carry MP5 and Glock Pistols. These guys would be your Anti-terrorist People. Plus dont forget the trusty Walther PPk.

The british police are not armed uless they are going to an armed response or there guarding the Queen. or standing outside 10 dowing street. most are sa80s which the army use or hand guns

My friends brother is an armed policeman. He uses a 9mm pistol and also carries a semi automatic MP5 submachine gun.

Well because they prefer their guys to use a stupid stick I won't ever live there. I swear if Clinton gets elected we are moving to switzerland! LOL Its frustrating that a country would allow ALL the criminals to have firearms and the police are expected to use a stick.
