he is NOT epileptic, and has had several scans. These seizures ONLY happen in his sleep. And he had 3 around 6:40am this morning. First ones in a year and a half. He's had studies done and they have found nothing, medication made it worse when he took it (Klonopin and Dilantin). I called 911 and they came, it took a while to get him to wake up, he bit his tongue and was bleeding and when he finally woke up, he knew the things he needed to know, important questions. If anyone has any ideas as to what is going on, knowing that he is NOT epileptic, please help, we are desperate.

POST EDIT: It's now almost 11am, the seizures started at 6:30am. He's now in the Emergency Room, and I'm sitting in the waiting room. He just had another seizure while in the ER and something with his blood pressure changed right before it happened. not sure what that means. But like I said they only happen when he sleeps. And these dumb asses gave him 2 mg of ATIVAN. That stuff makes you fall asleep at that dose. So I feel they are trying to cause him to have a seizure, maybe to see what's going on. He's in CT right now being scanned. I'm so scared, been crying all morning. His dad is in there now with him. His tongue is extremely mangled, and he's basically eating his tongue. Every time he seizes he eats it so bad, that there is blood everywhere. I'm so scared, I'm not sure what or how to react to this situation without scaring him as well. He doesn't remember having the seizures either. I'm so scared, and I know he is too... I know I have to be strong for him..help!!

Agreeing with everyone to go back to doctors. Also did you check out any sleep disorders? You can find a pile of them if you google it. There are some weird and scary disorders that happen during sleep. It would be someplace to look at any rate and may offer a clue. Best wishes.

I am sorry to say that it most definitely sounds as if your boyfriend is having seizures. CT scans and MRIs are expected to be normal in a person with epilepsy. EEGs may be normal in those with epilepsy or abnormal in those without seizures so they are of no real benefit unless the recording is made during a seizure. Clonazepam (Klonopin) is not used for seizures so it would have been expected to help. Phenytoin (Dilantin) is helpful for certain types of seizures but not others so if it did not help it means that this was the wrong drug, the wrong dose, or an additional medication will be required. I would strongly urge you to encourage your boyfriend to return to the physician. 1st it must be determined that there is no underlying correctable problem which is leading to the seizures and if not treatment is sometimes a matter of trial and error. Everyone is unique and their response to treatment is unique as well. I know that this is frightening so I wish both of you the very best of luck and health.

My husband had a similar situation several years ago. He has night terrors also though. I would roll over and he would be convulsing. It was diagnosed as a nerve disorder. THey never perscribed anything for it. They just said it was being overstressed and overtired. When his body relaxed, the minds way of releasing the pressure was the seizures. They haven't happened in over a year. I would however consult a Dr.
