For some reason I think he's getting me a purse/bag. A fancy one - that I don't even think I'm ready for. I know I don't have to match the gift, but my idea of cooking him dinner doesn't really cut it.

Since you just started, the safest way to go would be a nice cologne/par-fum for men...... I'm sure he would appreciate that, it doesn't say too little or too much, something like jewelry or clothes is for one year together & up, so that you can get a taste of his style, & what he really likes. Plus you get to pick a scent you'd love to smell on him! Merry Christmas

Having been seeing each other for such a short time,an expensive gift is inappropriate.I would tell him you are flattered and it is sweet of him,but it's a little too soon to be swapping gifts of this nature.I think cooking dinner for him is an excellent idea.I know I would appreciate the effort.Suggest that he bring a bottle of wine and flowers and that a special evening together will be all the gift you need.Exchange cards and enjoy each other' company. If your relationship goes further, next Christmas will be the time for the big ticket items.Relax and have a lovely holiday!

Sure it does! Give him what comes from the heart. He's buying you a bag because he thinks it will bring you joy. If cooking is your way of showing him you care, do it. It'll mean a lot to him. Trust me; a store-bought gift won't match.

Good luck

Maybe he just want to find out if you have the spirit of giving. A card, nice perfume and a surprise dinner out will be ok

Hello, get him something he needs and can use as a christmas present. Examples, a watch, hiking shoes (if he enjoys hiking), a scarf (to keep him warm), if he drives (something for his car)

Does he have an office job? The something for the office. If not --something for his apt or home. Maybe a c.d., or dvd. You know, something he likes, but not personal.
