I dont have a lot of confidence around the opposite sex, dont like getting drunk or noisy smoke filled places.... any ideas ?

VIDEO STORE- easy conversation, just start with the movie she has in her hand, or offer to tell her about one you have seen that you really liked. If she has a boyfriend or husband she will find a way to bring him up in conversation.
WEDDINGS- always lots of single women
GYM- Tons of women, we look for men here too!
WORK- I have dated alot of men I work with. Its easy to find love with someone you already spend alot of time with.

Think what you DO like doing and go somewhere where it happens - you'll start with meeting someone with a similar interest, which is a good start, especially if you're not that confident. This applies to drag-racing, playing chess, sado-masochistic sex, watching football, etc etc. Mind you, can't guarantee they'll be sexy, or even of the right gender, but, hey, it's a start!

Go to the strip club, those strippers talk and flirt with anyone in the bar, use it as a class room, build your confidence and game there. I don't know how your city is, but mine has a smoking ban in public places so you don't have to worry about it being smoky
