Pulses like chickpeas tend to go off pretty quickly, they start to ferment at room temperature. You can tell if it's off when it looks 'bubbly' and it will also taste fizzy.

Is it store bought? If so, does it have preservatives listed on the list of ingredients? Does it look and smell okay? If yes, it might be okay.

Did you make it yourself? Did you put lots of lemon in it? It might be okay.

Did anybody "double dip" last night (put the bread in their mouth to bite, then put that same piece of bread back into the hummus)? If so, I would probably pitch it. That kind of bacteria will spread fast. Just make some more.

I left out my hummus overnight one night and eventhough on the container it said to keep refrigrator, the next day it was fine. I ate it and didn't get sick.

sitting out? yes. what you have is inedible. Hummus is a protein product(beans) and in food service we treat beans like meat as it can spoil EXACTLY like meat. I have seen it happen. EDIT: normally I would agree with LOLwut but....we have become a nation of sissies living on refrigerated products and not eating anything that is the least little bit odd. THAT makes our immune systems weak for food spoilage bacterias and people can get sick easier now than they did back in the day when there were no fridges.
