Easy! Just put a circle of catnip or your cats favorite treat around the tree- about 2 feet away. Then your cat will be more interested in the food and forget the tree.

In order to keep the stray cats out of my potted plants, I took some hair from my hairbrush and put a small amount around the base of the plant. Try hanging some from the lower branches close to the stalk of the tree. My cat never was interested in climbing the tree. Good Luck.

Go to wal-mart or petco and get a can of this stuff called "Pet Training Aid Spray" made by the Hartz company. I've been using it for years to keep my cats from scratching up my furniture. The only downside is that you have to use it like 4 times a day to keep the smell potent. It's something about the smell that keeps dogs and cats away. It really works.

I have the perfect answer as this is what I do to keep my cat from the christmas tree!

There is a company called dogwatch & there is a little reciever you buy (like $150) that you plug in next to your tree & the cat wears a collar & since I have bought mine, my cat has not stepped foot near my tree!!! It is great, no more broken ornaments!!

Try their website to find a local dealer, if you don't have one in your area, email me & I can put you in touch with mine!

Anytime the cat gets near the tree spray him or her with water from a spray water bottle. Cats really tend to hate this and it works as a great deterrent for doing it again. It might take a few times as most cats are pretty strong will be but eventually he or she will feel it’s not worth getting sprayed and stay away. Works for other things too!

Keep the cat in a different room or in a crate when the tree is up and you aren't home. It's just a big scratching post covered in shiny toys to a cat.
