it probably means that you are subconsciously thinking about your sister or the other way around. There might also be some history of which your sister used to bully or beat you up.It can also be attributed to an unsettled issue with your sister.

As Freud says dreams are fulfilment of unrequited desires though the presentation of the satisaction may take weird forms. It is quite likely that you had not been very kind to your sister who ,as you say ,has since left your house. She perhaps did not react to your abuse either because she loved you or because you were her younger brother and she considered it her duty to protect you. You might even have been aware at the time you ill-treated her that perhaps you were not acting as the best of brothers and on account of the eve present latent fear that she may beat you up you overdid your reaction to silence her. Now after she has left you these gooses are coming home to you to roost. Her beating you in dreams is the reaction you always feared would come but did not- Your guilty conscience now punishes you by these lop-sided dreams. The actual physical pain yo continue to feel even after waking up can be a psychosomatic effect. You must sincerely beg her pardon either by a letter or if you are too nervous for that in an imaginary talk with her. Perhaps this will slowly reduce her appearance in your dreams and the flogging you receive. In fact it is you who are flogging yourself. I would not be surprised if you are actually flogging yourself during sleep wich is a more reasonable explanation for the physical pain you feel on waking up.

OK, First you must understand what a dream is. A dream is a collection of pictures (anything you have heard about or seen) that is thrown around by your illogical sub -conscious mind while you sleep. The logical part of your mind ( The conscious) grabs these pictures and tries to make sense of them, placing them in some order so they try to make a story. So, you could have thought about a fight, then your sister, and your mind stated to you that your sister is hitting you. Once you understand how a dream is formed, then you can begin to change them, or sometimes even control them. Don,t worry about it. It is normal for dreams to sometimes be scary when you can not control them.

Do you and your sister have a good or bad relationship? Usually we have bad dreams about the people we love when we miss them. The whole time my son was serving in Iraq i would dream about us arguing or him dying. Once he was back in the USA the dreams stopped. Call your sister tell her about the dreams and tell her you miss her. See if just the sound of her voice on the telephone doesn't stop those dreams.

Freud would say that you wanted to have sexual relations with your sister, but never had the chance to do so. Now, her beating you up is the closest you guys could be... by the way, this is a bs answer. Maybe you should go to your sister's house and beat her up, seriously.

They say that every person in your dream represents a part of yourself. So maybe you're beating yourself up over something. Maybe that something has to do with your sister.. or a part of you that is like her.
