First, if a person does not eat, that is called Anorexia Nervosa.

Bulimia is when a person either eats a lot (binges), then vomits it all up, or uses laxative pills to make the food leave their body faster through a bowel movement.

Bulimics also use excercise in excess after they binge.

A sign that someone doesn't eat is pretty obvious. They don't eat.

If a person is bulimic, a dead giveaway is that they often go to the restroom immediately after eating. They also put a lot of strange "rules" on eating......You name it...each bulimic is different.

Many anorexics/bulimics become that way because of an emotional need to be in control of their body. This happens often to girls who live in very controlling families, where they resort to trying to control the only thing they can....what goes in, and what comes out.

One girl on a tv show about bulimia would actually throw up in plastic ziploc baggies, and hide the vomit for up to a week at a time. When her husband wasn't home, she would take all the vomit bags out to the trash (there were 8 or more) YECH.

If the person won't get help for their disorder, tell them to at least take vitamins until they get strong enough to see a doctor.

The frequency of bulimic cycles will vary from person to person. Some will suffer from an episode every few months while others who are more severely ill may binge and purge several times a day. Some people may vomit automatically after they have eaten any food. Others will eat socially but may be bulimic in private. Some people do not regard their illness as a problem, while others despise and fear the vicious and uncontrollable cycle they are in [7].

Currently, there is no known way to prevent the onset of bulimia nervosa. Less social and cultural emphasis on physical perfection might help, but it is difficult to make sweeping societal changes. And, as stressed earlier, the best method for preventing the progression of this disorder is early intervention by contacting your medical health professional and receiving psychotherapy. Adults have an immeasurable impact on their children, and focusing on developing a healthy lifestyle is key to raising healthy children in all aspects of life. Teaching children to adopt a healthy diet as a way of life and incorporating fun activities into their day will allow this to become second nature to them. Children should also be taught an emphasis on their internal characteristics and qualities rather than the external focus so much of society and the media tend to focus on. Action is the best method of teaching, and curtailing your own self-criticism and behavior will reflect substantially on your children’s impressions of themselves [15].
Bulimia nervosa, more commonly known as bulimia, is an eating disorder. It is a psychological condition in which the subject engages in recurrent binge eating followed by an intentional purging. This purging is done in order to compensate for the excessive intake of the food and to prevent weight gain. Purging typically takes the form of vomiting; inappropriate use of laxatives, enemas, diuretics or other medication; excessive physical exercise, or fasting.

If they eat a lot and don't gain any weight, and seem unhealthy, then their bulimic.

When a person is bulimic, they suffer from both emotional and physical distresses. Like many other eating disorders, bulimia is often triggered by negative emotions including sadness, depression, loneliness, and feelings of inadequacy. These particular feelings may trigger a binge, but then guilt takes over causing an individual to have intense fears of weight gain.

Bulimia (say “boo-LEE-mee-uh”) is a type of eating disorder. People with bulimia will eat a large amount of food in a short time (binge). Then they will do something to get rid of the food (purge). They may vomit, exercise too much, or use medicines like laxatives.

People who have bulimia may binge because food gives them a feeling of comfort. But eating too much makes them feel out of control. After they binge, they feel ashamed, guilty, and afraid of gaining weight. This causes them to purge.
