Imagine waking up one morning after a very restful sleep. Then you get a phone call from someone you really love asking you to run away with them to a beautiful exclusive place where people are waiting to serve you. When you get there, 1 million dollars and a very expensive, valuable diamond collection are waiting for you.

That's how good a Krispy Creme doughnut is.

They are quite a commodity here in the States.

They really ARE Crispy and creamy. They have a lot of vanilla in the sugar glaze and the glaze gets hard on the outside, but inside, the donut is still warm and very very very soft.

They are definitely craveable, but they are extremely sweet. Too sweet for me. I prefer Dunkin Donuts. ALL Dunkin donuts are made at the shop, and ALL are fresh. Their coffee is much better too.

The sad thing about the Krispy Kreme stores, is that ONLY their glazed donuts are fresh and hot all day. The rest of the donuts on their menu are typical gas station/ convenience store fare and taste like preservatives and are cold and dry because they are shipped by truck from a commissary, not baked on the premises, just like hohos and twinkies. Why would I want to pay for that????

When I found out they didn't bake all donuts fresh right there, I lost respect for the franchise. Yes, you should try the "original glazed" donuts, hot and fresh, at least once in your life, but other than that, you can find much better quality EVERYWHERE else.

I am surprised that KK hasn't opened a franchise in Aussieland yet!

I believe the difference in this and other, more common doughnuts is that Krispy Kreme are made to rise with yeast and not baking powder/soda. This means they're much more 'open' (more air in them, lighter, fluffier) than the denser cake-like doughnuts other places make.

Additionally, they really push them on their freshness, so they try to get you to buy them when they're warm, which makes all baked goods better.

they are great, but only if you get them fresh from the krispy kreme store, not from the gas station or grocery store that sells them. they are made fresh at their stores and are so good when they are still warm. there is just no comparison

They're good in their own way, though I wouldn't say they are a replacement for a regular donut. Very greasy, very sweet, very rich. They taste wonderful, but tend to sit in a lump at the bottom of one's stomach.
