Well, I think this is a good question. I love animals, but I also agree that it is fun to at least find the dog that is good for your personality and lifestyle.
That would be a start. The sites will reccomend certain breeds for you, depending on your lifestyle. (a high energy dog for someone who has the time to run them)
When you do find a few that are compatible, THEN you do the research on the breeds that you are interrested in in the list. THEN find the breeder and dog!
Good luck. Although I didnt answer your question, I do believe the first answer on top was wrong!

I agree with the first answer, though I wouldn't have put it nearly as blunt. That's really the best way you're going to find the most compatible dog for you. Lots and lots of research (which really isn't that much at all) Just look into specific breeds' temperaments and origins.
A simple way to get started is looking at what SIZE of dog you want. After that, it's really rather easy.

Good luck! :]

You must mean lifestyle not your personality.

Dogs aren't born with human personalities. Research different breeds and see what type of dog characteristics will match your lifestyle.

i think it's better if you look for any dog that will match your lifestyle. you may have a greyhound personality, but if you live in a tiny apartment, your better off with a poodle. try your nearest shelter. they'll match you up and you'd be rescuing a pet for the holidays.

Useless.
Read the BREED STANDARDS!
Make a "short-list" of those that appeal.

Then go *MEET* those on the narrowed-down list...at a SHOW!! At a REPUTABLE BREEDER!

MEET *REAL* dogs, not some "glorified" B-S from folks who want you BUY *THEIR* breed. Or worse yet.....be a "Fad-Following Fool".
