in india where i come from, rice is cooked almost if not every day,at times at both the main meals, but rice eaters have worked their way round the nutritive value or lack of it in white or polished rice.the curries or sauces that go with a helping of rice not only moisten the cooked rice & add to the flavour, but supply important nutritive elements, with rice we serve a gravy of pulses called dal, high in proteins,a vegetable dish provides viatmins, then there is usually a dish at non vegetarian tables of either fish, meat or poultry,so that rounds off nutrients fairly well, dont you think.

Rice is good for you as part of your normal diet. Just like anything else, portion size is what matters. Brown rice is healthier than the white rice. Maybe you could ask your mom to try that once a week.

Rice doesn't have a heck of a lot of nutrition. It is "enriched" at the factory, but we usually rinse it before we boil it...that loses a lot of the nutrition.
It is ideal for poor consumers because it will stretch a little bit of meat into a huge meal, and fills up your stomach nicely.
It is also a good alternative to potatoes or wheat or corn. It does supply plenty of carbs, though.

Well, as part of the "grains" section of the food pyramid, you should be getting more of them than the other categories. Rice makes a good filler as well, and coming from a mom who has to cook food for 5 people on one income, it's inexpensive to boot. Rice isn't bad for you...long grain brown rice is good, if you're sick of white rice...ask your mom to try different kinds if she insists on making it.

White rice has no nutritional value. Try brown rice or whole grains & wild rices.

Yes, especially brown rice and basmati. But plain rice is good too, maybe not too much and not combined with bread, pasta, sweets, etc.
