I believe that if we pull out now, before achieving our stated goal, all these soldiers (and civilians, i suppose) will have died in vain.

The "Exit Strategy" for the US military for Iraq has to take into account the lessons learned from the Fall of South Vietnam. South Vietnam was a bloodbath that resulted in more deaths AFTER the US left than in the ten years before hand.

The US military needs to provide the local Government with the means and support it requires to become a self-sustaining government that can hold its own against outside interference.

The US soldier has paid a high price for this conflict so far and should be allowed to finish the job. This will entail re-structuring for different missions as the local Iraqi Police and Army become more stable and self-assured.

If we pull our troops out immediately, I sure wouldn't want to be in that last group to leave. Remember when we did that in Vietnam, and we had to rescue the last few from the roof of the embassy building with a helicopter because the north Vietnamese were right there shooting at us? When the enemy knows you're leaving, all hell breaks loose.

Then the country will be in utter chaos after the withdrawal is complete. You think Iraq is crazy now? It will be 100 times worse after a US troop withdrawal - unless the Iraqis are ready to take control. Right now they're not.

I wouldnt write a research paper on immediately withdrawling troops from iraq, if you do your research you will see thats a bad idea but you can use that as a counter arguement in a research paper. plus withdrawling them now for the common good would be hard to prove.

. This is from personal experience as a civilian logistics consultant in Iraq from 2004 until 2006., Bosnian war duration as civilian with ample experience in actual details of war rather than newsweek, fox, cnn, other infotainment channels , first iraqi war, war in sudan, afghanistani war between taliban and russia.
Quick summary - if we pull out , we maintin the coward image that we gained during Carter,, Reagan , Bush , Clinton (myGod especially Clinton and then now the wimp Bush) Mysuggestion - remove if we continue on current game plan. Which is a military police action/apologizing for so called torture in prisons/excellent treatment of prisons in GITMO. / If we change and become feared instead of laughed at - and by the way, if we and other countries would have attacked afghanistan , as Bin Laden wanted after 911 - the KIA would have been worse.../ If we change directions - we need to go for a win!!! to instill fear in Muslim fanatics and passive muslims. Their culture and religion is NOT one of equality. Someone is in total complete power and opressing the other. I have worked with tribes in Dagistan, Afghanistan , Tajikastan, - Sudan, Northern Africa and this is the way they think....we can not change that. Bush's daddy was a wimp in the eyes of the arab world because he did not kill sadam, Reagon was a wimp in the eyes of the arab world because he did not bomb the hezbolloah camp when he had the chance and Clinton is a joke in the eyes of the arabs because he allowed us to be attacked several times with out rebelling as well. Where he was really laughed at was when he bombed serbia and milosevic at the request of Saudi and Iran because they wanted for the usa to bomb a christian country in europe. clinton also made a deal with the saudis that if he bombed serbia they would buy 7 billion in jets from boeing. If you need links I can send to you. Many of the stories were actually written by former writers, correspondents of a liberal newspapers....

Gulf War number one had a definate goal ... and lasted only 43 days until the goal was achieved and we pulled out.

This one started on a premise which was left unproven (Weapons of Mass Destruction). So Bush has taken the "TR" off the word TROOPS.
