The OT makes it very clear that a fetus is considered a part of the woman's body (not a separate human being) until it is born.

http://hebrewcollege.edu/html/news/currents/v1-5_index.htm

Jewish law defines when a fetus becomes a nefesh (person). "...a baby...becomes a full-fledged human being when the head emerges from the womb. Before then, the fetus is considered a 'partial life.' "

In the case of a "feet-first" delivery, it happens when most of the fetal body is outside the mother's body.

Jewish beliefs and practice do not match either the "pro-life" nor the "pro-choice" points of view. The general principles are that: The fetus has great value because it is potentially a human life, but from 40 days gestation until birth it is a part of the woman's body. The fetus gains "full human" status at birth only.

This is a good question and one that even the Supreme Court has mulled, "exactly when does an embryo or fetus have rights as a human being"?

Many Christians who oppose abortion set the standard high. They'll protect the embryo from conception because of the value they place on life. By taking this position they are actually avoiding your question about a soul infusion at fertilization.

We really don't know when a baby first becomes aware of itself. We really don't know when a fetus is first recognized as being human and thus imbued with human rights. The most basic being the right to life.

However, we do understand science. And science tells us that what makes us human is found in every cell of our body. It is found in the DNA that makes each of us an individual person. We are human because of the genetic message within our DNA. And if we are to consistent with protecting the rights of each human being then we need to recognize that an embryo is fully, actually and fundamentally a human being.

I thought that Christians believed that a person is given a soul at 1 or 2 years, which is supposed to explain why we can't really remember before about 2 years old.

No one said that at conception that a seed has a soul placed in that boby, at least I never said that, At conception that seed has life in it, But not a soul yet, Just hang on a minute, If as many want to justify their ideals about abortion, saying that seed is not a human, then why have an abortion, if there is no life in that embryo, Then no one has to worry about what will happen 9 months later, That seed is getting it's oxygen from it's mother, God has already created a soul for that body for when it is born,When that baby is Born then God puts in that breath of life which also causes that baby to have a living soul. Now if that baby dies before it is born Then That soul God create will stay with God for ever. So to those who think that seed is not live, just leave it alone then & don't do nothing, & we will see what happens in 9 months.

Find your answer in science: 23 chromosomes from dad plus 23 chromosomes from mom = 46 chromosomes: a genetically complete human life which needs only oxygen, food, and a safe place to grow until birth. His or her physical appearance, some likes and dislikes, propensity for developing some diseases later in life, and even many personality traits are already determined.

If you are hurting from an abortion, get counseling. Don't bash Catholics for it.

Given all the other rubbish that christians "know" you should hardly be surprised. As one religious leader said on a radio broadcast (BBC Radio 4) and I quote......
"We as christians are emotional cripples that need the crutch of god to help us along the path of life".
The only indisputable truth that I have ever heard from a christian leader

They do not know that. No one can know that. Anyone who says they know that are full of it. They have some theory, unproved, and they then call their theory "fact". Then they base all their other suppositions on this unproven and unvalidated "fact". hardly a scientific approach at all. This is the cornerstone of religious fanaticism.

At the moment of fertilization a human life begins. A soul is the essence of human life and corporeal life cannot exist without the presence of a soul. Therefore a soul is created at the moment of fertilization.

How does anyone KNOW anything about what God does or intends? They don't. Religion outside one's self is merely an attempt to control others. And doesn't it work rather well? They have us all brainwashed or we wouldn't even bother to argue with them.
