Humanism is just a morality based on what's good for humans. That doesn't just apply to atheists, though atheists tend to be large proponents of Humanism.

The whole idea of Humanism being based on what is "best" for humans implodes due to the fact that they have no means of establishing an absolute basis of good/evil, right/wrong, true/false.
Who determines what's "best" or even "good" for that matter. Ultimately, this worldview comes down to one's personal preference and when the preferences of two people are in conflict, there is no Truth in which to appeal, so all that is left is force.
In the end, when Absolute Truth is denied, all that's left is "Might makes Right" and you don't want to live in a world like that (unless you have all the "Might").

I agree with your statement. A humanist gauges every social interaction and environmental impact on 'the good of mankind' regardless of religious convictions of the members making up that society. 'The good of the many outweigh the rights of the few.'
