It is possible although it is a low risk, When the baby is in the womb it has it's own blood supply. The risk comes only when the child is being born and blood is present. All children born to Hep C mothers will have the Hep C antibody from the mum, as they develop and their own immune system grows stronger it will start to fight those antibodies. A child won't even be tested until about 18 months old as it takes that length of time for it's immune system to fight off the antibody. If at 18 months the antibodies are still present, then a virus (PCR) test will be done to see if the virus is present. Research shows only about a 5% (sometimes higher, sometimes lower) of the baby contracting the virus. Even if it does - Hep C is such a long acting virus (20 -40 yrs) and you can insure that your child puts the right kinds of foods in their body to keep their liver healthy and there is treatment! Talk to someone who knows more about this and put your mind at ease.

It is possible. Children who are born from a mother with HCV will show antibodies for HCV long after child birth and from those a few will actually have hcv.
A child has less a chance of contracting HCV by c-section.
Talk it over with your doctor.
