That's weird. I have been to Singapore many times and lived there for couple of years in the past. My feeling was it was very 'easy' and 'open' for North American and European travellers and expatriates.
Friends from China, India, and the Philippines tend to have more trouble getting an 'open and easy' attitude from the immigration office.
You have done the right thing by filing an appeal. There's nothing you can do now other than waiting for their answer. I wish you good luck! But hey, in case they don't give it to you, too bad, that's their loss! Go to Malaysia, it's more fun and interesting! You can go to Joho Bahru and shouting across the strait : I don't want to go to your island!

Since you have already appealed to the S'pore embassy there's nothing you can do but wait for a reply from them. ENTRY REQUIREMENTS must be satisified and even then the country still reserve the right to grant or deny entry without providing a reason. There is no legal avenue.

It's the sovereign right of any country on this planet to refuse entry to any foreigner with or without valid cause. At least in this case you have an avenue for appeal. However, the country need not give you an explanation.

have you overstayed while there ? not sure why you would have a refusal if you have been there before ? have you had any legal problems while there ?
there are no recourses since each country has a right to accept or refuse entry for anyone ........
if you do not get a response from them ? there is nothing anyone can do for you ..........

Try writing to the Home Affairs Ministry.

What legal right?
Their law-Their country- and you want to change it?
Perhaps they will let you in-then charge you with a bogus crime and keep you.
would you feel better?
