My two year old is spitting out her medicine. I don't know how to get her to swallow it. Any ideas? She needs her medicine.

I should add that I had this medicine flavored so that it would taste good, so I don't think taste is an issue.

My daughter HATED taking it. I know this sounds harsh, but the doctor told me to try this if all else fails. It will take two people, but it works. Get one person to hold her arms down and head still so she doesn't knock your hand and you can hold her nose shut then put the medicine in her mouth. She will have no choice but to swallow it. Some people are going to comment and say this sounds cruel, but it's really not. You aren't cutting off her air supply b/c she can still breathe through her mouth...and when you put the medicine in, it takes a second to swallow then you let her go and console her. I HATED this method but it was the ONLY thing that worked.

If you can "trick" your daughter, maybe you can put it on a spoon and give it to her that way (assuming you are using a syringe to feed it to her). My daughter didn't buy it b/c the spoon could only hold so much.

If you know it tastes good, and she can drink out of a cup, then maybe get a doll or stuffed animal and give them a little medicine cup (empty). Pretend like you are giving them a drink of the medicine (again PRETEND to fill up the cup with medicine). After that, you could ask your daughter if she wants some. Then, put it in the cup and have her drink it. One last thing would be to name it something neat sounding. Tell her it's a magic potion that does something neat. Maybe tell her it makes her invisible for a few seconds. Give it to her then call her name and act like you can't find her. Then, say, "Oh! There you are!" Sometimes things like that will work, especially since she's 2, she MAY understand and go for it!

Best of luck!

Hi - it's all about being sneaky and not getting caught!

If its a liquid you can usually mix it with something else. Make sure it is something you know she loves and only offer her a small drink that way you know she will drink it all.

Same if its a tablet. Crush it well and mix with food BUT once again make sure you only offer her a small amount so you know she gets it all.

When my daughter was still on a bottle I used to mix her medicine in a bottle and give it to her but as she got older this became a prob. So i used to mix her tablets with whatever she was having on a piece of toast.

BUT DON'T GET CAUGHT MIXING IT or she'll never eat it. Kids are smart little buggers just as well we love em.... ha ha

Explain toher that it is but for a short time that she has to take the medicine and that every time she takes it she will get a star or some kind of sticker to show her she is a big girl and try putting a poster board up so she can see the stars and she can show every one that comes and especially let her take it to the next doctors visit.

i would go with the other replies,if she refuses even if its disguised with flavor try to sneak it into her food or some form of liquid, and lie to her about it,in this case lieing to her wont cause any backfire on you,i must have seen so many ways for a parent to keep there children healthy without even them realizing it,those juicers and stuff would probably be a good consumer product to purchase, you could mix the medicine with some oj or something, heck you could even sneak in a few healthy vegatables into drinks,to get keep them healthy, lol its allways bad to lie,but this type of lie is a small one,and its probably your best alternate way to get her to drink it.

Is it liquid or tablet form? If it's liquid check with her doctor to make sure it would be ok to mix it in with a cup of juice or milk, just make sure she drinks the whole cup. If it's tablet, you should be able to crush it up and mix it in with applesauce, yogurt, etc--basically something you know she will eat all of.

Get the liquid medicine. Put it into her sippy cup with juice and she will never know the difference. I did that with my son.

use a dropper and put it far back against her cheek. She will have no choice but to swallow. Or try mixing it into her milk or favorite drink.
