Angels are mentioned in Scripture about 273 times and have different rankings. They were all created by God, they do His bidding. They were present at the Creation of the World. They do not marry, are masculine, they are eternal.

There are Cherubim and Seraphim. Some angels do nothing but praise and worship. Some are messengers They are spirit and are invisible They have superior knowledge. Far stronger and larger than men.

They are ministers to mankind. When you hear of the Heavenly Hosts, the scriptures are referring to their military service and loyalty to God. They announce what is to come and make war on evil.

Other names for them include The Sons of the mighty or Sons of God are totally involved with the will of God. They are sometimes called stars, because of their vast numbers. They are the watchers or observers of mankind and sometimes administer judgment and rejoice at the redeeming of a soul. They are police officers, so to speak and are the ones who took Satan to jail.

Daniel 7:10 A fiery stream issued and came forth from before him: thousands of thousands ministered to him, and ten thousand times ten thousand stood before him: the judgment was set, and the books were opened.

It is assumed that when the Bible speaks here of ministering that the angels are actually taking back their report to God that they have each day. This report will be used in the Judgement to justify God's judgement as being fair and just. God doesn't need this because he knows everything but for the rest of the universe he is showing all that they will know for themselves the truth and see that his judgement is just and fair.

There is a sanctuary in heaven, the true tabernacle which the Lord set up and not man. In it Christ ministers on our behalf, making available to believers the benefits of His atoning sacrifice offered once for all on the cross. He was inaugurated as our great High Priest and began His intercessory ministry at the time of His ascension. In 1844, at the end of the prophetic period of 2300 days, He entered the second and last phase of His atoning ministry. It is a work of investigative judgment which is part of the ultimate disposition of all sin, typified by the cleansing of the ancient Hebrew sanctuary on the Day of Atonement. In that typical service the sanctuary was cleansed with the blood of animal sacrifices, but the heavenly things are purified with the perfect sacrifice of the blood of Jesus. The investigative judgment reveals to heavenly intelligences who among the dead are asleep in Christ and therefore, in Him, are deemed worthy to have part in the first resurrection. It also makes manifest who among the living are abiding in Christ, keeping the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus, and in Him, therefore, are ready for translation into His everlasting kingdom. This judgment vindicates the justice of God in saving those who believe in Jesus. It declares that those who have remained loyal to God shall receive the kingdom. The completion of this ministry of Christ will mark the close of human probation before the Second Advent. (Heb. 8:1-5; 4:14-16; 9:11-28; 10:19-22; 1:3; 2:16, 17; Dan. 7:9-27; 8:13, 14; 9:24-27; Num. 14:34; Eze. 4:6; Lev. 16; Rev. 14:6, 7; 20:12; 14:12; 22:12.)

Angels are mentioned scores of times in the Bible. Check out the blue Letter Bible and do a search on "Angels". You might be surprised.

The Angelic hosts have their own life in Heaven as we have a life here in the sense that they are not sitting around bored all the time, as that would not be Heaven, they do guard each one of us as our Guardian Angel and also bring our prayers before God, apart from this we do not know how they spend their time, except that they adore God..

You know, I believe that they are around watching over us and keeping the evil fallen angels from attacking us. Like, Satan tempts us and probably send his minions to do it. When I feel uncomfortable or that things are going crazy in my life, I pray that God's angels will put a hedge of protection around me. Also, when traveling, I pray that God's angels will be with us and see us to safety.

When we get to Heaven, we will see all first hand. How exciting!

Hebrews 1:14 gives us the Biblical purpose/role for angels:

Are they [angels] not all ministering spirits, sent out to render service for the sake of those who will inherit salvation? - Hebrews 1:14

God has assigned angels to serve His elect. Even Satan and his demons are under the sovereign control of God.

Their purpose is never explained in the Bible except to be God's spies and messengers. It's only in extra-biblical that other major purposes are defined.

Interestingly, Satan's angelic name is never mentioned in the Bible either. (And no, it's not Lucifer)
