Actually, no. There is another society, St Vincent De Paul society that is very active in helping people out. I support them 100%
Up north there is also a similar place called Amvets (american veterins). I love that place because they actually don't have trashy clothes and items, they are gently used and as a active duty military dependant, I get 25% off.
St. Vincent Dr Paul is truly a blessing to the community. I've never seen Salvation Army do anything except the angel tree and they don't have that in all neighborhoods either.

I had an ex-boyfriend that was sent to the Salvation Army as part of a rehabilitation program. I thought it was a great facility. The people who ran the program were good people. The people who were there for rehab had a schedule, schooling, work and fellowship. Your donations go to fund programs like these and others all around the world.

My Brother was a merchant Marine in England, and through the years we lost touch of him. I decided to contact the Salvation Army in N Y C. and see how I could go about it, someone told me they could help. Not only did they help, They contacted Salvation Army in England, and they in turn investigated, and finally found him, He was in a Hospital and not doing well. My younger Sister who lived in England went to see him, He died before she got there, But he did know we were looking for him. They Sent a beautiful letter of condolance and never asked for anything. So I never go passed the Red Kettles at Christmas Time. and I do remember them during the year.

Actually, the Salvation Army helped one of my sons & his kids one Christmas when my son was out of work & couldn't afford anything. They gave them a full Christmas meal, and enough extra food to see them through a few weeks, plus toys for all three kids.
They do help others whenever and wherever they can, but someone has to advise them of the specific need, first.

I was helped by the Salvation Army last Christmas. I have 3 children, and they gave me so many toys for the Holiday. I couldn't believe it...They also gave my 12 year old daughter a $25.00 gift certificate. A box of food for Christmas. It was one of my best Christmas ever...my children had so many gifts. It was set up like a store, and I picked out presents according to age groups. All of my children received about 20 presents each...good expensive presents...and clothes

I rent out houses in the city of Detroit. I have received checks from the Salvation Army to help my tenants cover their move in cost. Also, the local Salvation Army in Northwest Detroit provides hot meals to low income families in that neighborhood throughout the week.
