well look at the history of the u.s, it's a history just like the nazi's total anialiation of the red indians, then dropping two atom bombs on civillian cities, then carpet bombing korea and vietnam killing millions of civillians and now iraq, another 700.000 dead so far, so u figue out what the nazi's did and what the americans did in thier history, that will answer your question.

Judging by the ratings of the answers given, and the bad ratings given to the very good, correct answers, and the good ratings given to those answers that want to draw comparisons between the SS and those currently serving in the US army, you're simply looking for answers that agree with your warped and inane views.
In other words, you're an idiot that equates the current US Army with the Waffen SS (which is absurd to say the LEAST) and are simply trolling for other idiots that agree with you.

The "Waffen SS" helmet you are referring to was originally adopted by the German Army in 1935, and was an improved model of the 1916/1918 Stahlhelm("Steel Helmet"). The fact that the 1935 and later model helmets were used by the Waffen SS is incidental, and has nothing at all to do with the quality of the design.
The "coal scuttle" shape of the helmet was intended to provide greater protection to the nape(back) of the neck, and deflect falling debris outward, away from the wearer. It sat lower over the head than previous helmet designs, offering more coverage. The helmet was exported to several other countries by the Germans, including Finland, China, Spain and Argentina. The Irish Army used the 1918 helmet during the pre-WWII period.
Following WWII, many European countries made use of hundreds of tons of ex-German military hardware, including those distinctive "evil" helmets. Norway made extensive use of the 1935 helmet until the 50's.
The Allies captured and studied the entirety of the german war machine, and concluded that many of their designs were far in advance of anything else of the times. Aircraft and tanks leap immediately to mind. However, the inimitable "German Nazi SS Hitler Helmet" made a return apperance in the guise of the Personal Armor System Ground Troops Helmet, the PASGT, also known as the "Kevlar helmet", "K-pot" or "Fritz helmet". The design continues in service today as the Advanced Combat Helmet, with improvements in ergonomics and materials.
There is no "dark conspiracy" in the similarity between the designs of the 1935 Stahlhelm and the current helmets. It is simply an acknowledgement of superior design and protective qualities for a given set of parameters.

There are going to be some similarities because, honestly, how many different versions of a helmet can you have. The design is similar because it is an efficient one: it allows you to hear better because of the structure of the sides where your ears are. However, it is shorter in the back than the SS helmet (and the previous version of the Army helmet) so that it's easier to fire from the prone position (because the back is higher and it doesn't force the front of the helmet forward over your eyes). It's also made of kevlar and not steel , if you want to be picky.
The inside is also greatly improved over the old helmet by having movable padding so you can customize it to your head (and it fits better than the halo/headband the old helmets had).

I'm sure it's some sort of conspiracy. You are clearly a genius for making this fascinating and useful discovery. But I really don't care. The new ACH (Army Combat Helmet) is WAAAAYYYY more comfortable than the old Kevlars. They had me at hello.

There has not been a significant design change in military helmets since the Roman times.
See, the underlying human head has not changed much in shape (though I think it is becoming more square).

Well, I would think that it was most likely well designed, as were so many other great German inventions that we built our technology on, and the Army decided to change theirs to a better design which just happens to be similar to the ones that the Nazi SS soldiers wore.
