15yoa female cat ate artificial christmas tree fronds/needles. Has been acting like coughing up hairball for two days, only coughs up green mucus. No other residue. Still eats and passes stools regularly. Anything that we can give to assist in passing, one way or the other?

Hi,

Chances are the green mucus, is from the coloring from the artificial tree.

When a cat has eaten something that is not sitting well with the stomach, the cat will vomit it up, ie the green mucous.

I have a feeling she has already gotten rid of it when she vomited up the green mucus. Sounds like she if fine, Her stomach acid has probably already completely destroyed it and she then in turn vomited it up.

Sounds like she is just fine, If she wasn't, you would know it.

Give her Vaseline petroleum jelly - a dab or two directly on cat's tongue or dap on top of her front paws where she's sure to lick it off. The coughing may be due to abrasions in her esophagus caused by the artificial X/ms tree needles. The green mucus is a worry though. Are you sure it is mucus and not pus? Perhaps a trip to the vet is in order just to make sure that your s5 year lod GRAND feline will be OK.

If she's still eating and passing stool I'm pretty sure that's a good sign that there's no blockage but you should probably take her to the vet to be sure. If you're not looking to spend a lot on a diagnosis, (ultrasound or xray) you should just call the vet and see what they think.
