Are they prescribed by a Physician? It is always preferable to have an increase of iron rich foods in you diet, if that is possible, and also have some vitamin C like Oranges for absorbtion of the iron The side effects are mostly the black stool and perhaps constipation which can be controlled by increasing fiber in the diet. Overdose of Iron is to be guarded against and it causes, diarrhea, and can affect the liver.

It's very important to only take the recommended dosage as iron poisoning can result from overdose, including damage to the kidneys. Constipation is a common side effect as well as dark hard stools. It can also upset your stomach or cause naseua. Make sure you take it with food, keep hydrated and you may need a stool softener.

a darker coloured stool if you take too much, but i havent heard of any other side effects from taking iron tablets orally. In theory, excess iroon could build up around major organs, but this usually happens when someone has to undergo regular blood transfusions. They need iron chelation therapy to remove the excess iron from tehir body.

you either get constipated or have diarrhea. Also can become naseaus and have what feels like hunger pangs even after you have eaten.
Your stool will also turn black and hard.
You can get iron in a liquid form, you can get water with a high level of iron in it, which has no side effects as its all natural.

You can get a liquid iron supplement which is better absorbed by the body and avoids a lot of the problems associated with tablets.
You can get it in health food stores - at least, my local one stocks it! Ask for Floradix.

definately constipation. Your better off getting iron through eating dark chocolate and red wine. thats what I do anyway. Also, you need sufficient vit C to help store iron. So, dark choc, red wine and an orange after every meal!
