It's easy to see that most of the violence and bigotry in the world today is religious based, and it tells a great deal about the true nature of the underlying religion. Imagine a world where people believed in things that made sense, and stopped all the hatred based on false superstitions. It's time for us to realize our destiny is in our hands and stop believing in myths and unanswered prayers. If religions have any truth about them, why are the organized religions so corrupt and dishonest?

There are many powers bigger than I am - the laws of nature and the power of love, for example.

No, I don't need a god to believe in. As for "someone"... I believe in many someones - myself, you, and every other human being I know. I believe we have limitless potential and should value and strive to realize that potential.

Which big questions? There's a lot of them. Some I have answers for, and some I don't. I'm OK with not knowing everything. If I knew everything, life would be boring. I've also never met anyone that has all the answers, so I would say that atheism does not put me at any disadvantage in that regard.

That last q, I don't know what you mean... as politics in what way?

What power? The idea that there is a god is only that - an idea. Justified by nothing.

I believe in myself. I am accountable only to me. That's all I need.

Big questions? Like what? How life began? I don't really care in all honesty. All I know is that I'm here right now, as are you. I know enough biology to know how I got here, and it doesn't really matter to me how we all got here. We are here.

Religion is and has always been tied up in politics. There's no getting away from that, unfortunately. I just don't want your personal set of morals to be pushed on me through legislation. That's wrong, and against the Constitution.

So, why don't I believe in god? The bible. It's ludicrous from beginning to end. It's contradictory to itself in so many places I can't even name them all. And the other reason is people who are the supposed representatives/followers of Christ. The common everyday Christian. They are the most intolerant, unfair, pushy, hypocritical bunch it has ever been my misfortune to come across. I have to deal with my bf's mom every day - she's evangelical - and I know what I'm talking about here. I won't go into it, because it's a long story. But, I answered your question. Those are my reasons.

I believe in myself, I have faith in myself that if I want something I have to earn it on my own. I don't need to pretend that there is a God to justify everything that happens in the world. I was once a Christian but the more I researched the true origins of the religion the more I realized that it was a load of Crap...nothing more then Greek Mythology. It just takes a little common sense. The answer to the "Big" question is that humans create things to help them cope with answers they don't understand. Back before anyone knew what science was they made up Gods to explain things they couldn't. Now that we understand the world better we don't need to make up stories like that. There are thousands of religions and there have been even more in the past....the evidence is stacking up against there being a God...its just a matter if you want to accept it or pretend that it doesn't exist.

"don't u need sm1 to believe in?"

Nope, I don't rely on mythology to live my life. Although technically I take an agnostic standpoint on life, I'm not saying there isn't some higher power somewhere, I just don't believe in a single god that created the universe and I don't believe we would be of considerable interest to said higher power if they did exist.

My lack of belief basically falls down to a lack of proof and increasing number of inconsistancies in organised religions. If you were to show me proof, however, I would be willing to change my opinion.

I can understand the motivations behind religion. And I can understand the comfort.

But I would rather be free, and face the truth. Even though I don't have the luxury of believing in a loving god.

I don't believe in god, gods, spirits, intelligent powers, because there is no documentable, scientific proof for them. The power that I believe in are the laws of the Universe, gravity, electro magnetic force, strong and weak nuclear forces. Everything can be and has been explained by these forces and there is no need for god.

No, no and no.
You see god does not exist. Period. There is no "higher power", none.
You people who claim he does exist (in fact you say you have proof) yet continually dodge the question when we ask you to provide proof. Why? Because you know full well that god is nothing more than an imaginary sky-pixie, with no more substance than any other fairy or leprechaun.

I am an atheist because there is a total lack of any hard evidence that indicates there is a god. This lack of evidence indicates to me that the only reasonable conclusion is that there is no god.

If you try to say that something exists without any evidence, then it was made up for no rational reason.
