You probably just slept wrong. It is painful. Try gently stretching it, maybe apply some heat and take some ibuprofen. If it is caused from sleeping wrong it should only last a day or so. Gentle massage may help too.

Can you go to a walk-in clinic where they will let you make payments? You really should be seen as it could be a lot of things. Advil is an anti-inflamatory so if it worked, it could be a pulled muscle or it could be a gland that is infected. Some pain radiates from where it starts to a different area. I take it you don't have any teeth that could be abcessed? I had neck and jaw pain due to this but no headache. Which doesn't mean anything as we all react differently to such things. Sounds like the pain is managable with medication but it may only get worse if you don't get it diagnosed. I would say that one Doctor visit would cost less than a hospital stay! Good luck.

All the vertebrae in my neck are fused with cadaver bones so I don't think it'll make a difference to know how I felt. I do use a neck pillow and I use ice packs when needed.

most likely you slept with your head and neck in a funny position and it strained the muscles in your neck.try a neck pillow if this happens quite often. if it persists then maybe you need to get catscans done and make sure all your discs in your neck are alright. hope this helps. good luck and merry christmas.

I stretch.
Stretch out your back and shoulders.
You probably slept in a funky position, or you're stressed out.

It sounds like you slept on it wrong. I would put a heat pad or a Therma pad on it.
