I need a new dvd player, and was also thinking of getting a ps2. My cash is limited, so the ps2 looks like a good option. My question is can the ps2 be made multi-region, and can it play dvd-r's, dvd+r's, and dvd-rw's?

I wouldn't. The PS2 can only play something like 95% of DVDs on the market today. Some DVD's with certain special features will not work. I also know that you will have a lot of problems tyring to run DVD-r's and otherwise. It's also a pain to navigate through with the controller.

compared to a normal dvd player, its terrible,
You can only play certain zones dvds and even the tiniest scratches
stop the disc. It plays dvd-r's but it must be the correct format!
Good luck with ur decision
