no they are not and im sure most enlisted people would agree. Beleive it or not there are folks who join the military for the honor of defending our country not for the "easy money"?? or the "free ride"??

No, I was a soldier for a decade and I was exactly where I wanted to be. It was done by choice and a family history of US military service. Now that college is done, I am returning full-time to the military. I have complete contempt to those who serve JUST for the benefits and turn-tale when the going gets rough. I notice a lot of the current AWOL types want to argue that they have moral issues with us being in Iraq. Sorry, but when you took your oath, you checked those supposed moral issues at the door. All potential recruits should study history and think long and hard of what might be asked of them before they sign up. Don't do it just because you suddenly feel patriotic or want to impress your girlfriend and definitely don't do it just for the benefits (they are great though) . If it's mental problems, I have more sympathy.

No, they are not victims. It's been over five years since 9/11, so the vast majority of them have either enlisted or re-enlisted since then. I would hate to think that anyone in the military didn't realize that 9/11 would start a war somewhere.
Anyone in the military should have been fully aware when they joined that they could go to war anyplace, anytime, and for any reason, whether they agree or not. This would be true even if 9/11 had not happened. It's also true no matter what country you live in.

Nope.. I would venture to guess there are thousands of American's who would gladly put on boots, grab a rifle and head over to kill insurgent's/terrorists. If I COULD, I WOULD. But cant. My heart is in the right place...I don't care if our reason for war is contestable, I would ONLY care that my fellow citizens in uniform are being shot at. I would not consider myself a victim, except that I cant take part with a high energy desire to want to.
Those that cower or fear the fight, aren't victims dude, we are NOT all the same...therefore each person has a different feel for it, and if they cant function, well, send them home...no big deal.

If you look at America's track record, they have been involved in some kind of "war", conflict, crisis, operation, whatever you want to call it, for most of the past century. I think people are delusional when they sign up thinking they will not have to fight. Odds are, if you are in the military, you will be involved in some kind of a military operation. In a sense, if they signed up for just the benefits, they are victims of their own lack of knowledge.

They are not victims, they are just stupid! Those awol types who go to Canada as soon as the going gets tough. I have no respect for them at all. I joined in 1991, did my time and got out. I didn't go into the military for the benefits. I did it to have a purpose. Now I am older and so happy I have the title U.S. Army vet!

Nope! Idiots or maybe traitors but not victims. I signed on the dotted line and so did they. If you join the military JUST for school then you are a moron. (that school won't help you much) Its the MILITARY not a grant program.

No. Those people are called F * * K S T I C K S by the rest of us who made a choice to put on the uniform, suck up the benefits AND honor the committment we made when we signed the contract.

victims of their own stupidity. Anyone who joins the Army and then says they didn't think they would have to fight should be shot as a coward and the body drawn and quartered.
