Cows have to be milked each day, sometimes twice, but the milk I buy in shops is dated anything up to 10/12 days in the furture. How can it be fresh and without preservatives ?
What happens to the fresh milk ?
It just does not make any sense.

twice a day the cows i know but to answer your quest Raymond the milk is immediately frozen so its in control of bacteria forming but then collection and taken to the cleanser unit cooler and strainer to get all the nasty bits caught in the strainer and milk put in containers all takes time so its 4 days gone and if you get it still frozen and your fridge is at say 3 then your milk will be OK for the time you state. Now as a boy i used to get my milk fresh straight from the cooler and there's no comparison with the milk you buy in the shops, so,if you want a drop of fresh go into a dairy and if the dairy maid is in a good mood she might sell you a pint

Healthy Cows produce milk, the perfect food for the calf, whilst the calf has a digestive system attuned to a milk diet.
The milk passes directly from cow to calf in the dark at blood heat, a journey of a few seconds. The milk could contain bacteria from either from am infection of the cow or on the outside of the cows teats.
In the past, if the milk was cooled and filtred at once it could keep for about 1 to 2 days depending if the containers were clean.. Only by producing cheese, butter, evaporated or dries milk powder could the useful life of some of the milk solids be extended.
In Great Britain, nothing can be added to the milk to preserve it, Dirt and body cells can be removed by Filtration.(by gravity, under pressure, or by centrifugal force). Heating followed by rapid cooling kills most of the bacteria, including Pathogenic bacteria. The combination of time of heating and temperature varies from Pasturization to Ultra High Temperature (UHT) Treatment. Opaqe Sterile packing, and refrigeration once opened
Extends the shelf life to up to 21 days (purpak ultra filtration). Ocasionally bacterial spores may survive, but failure rates may be as low as 1 in 10,000. packs

People stopped getting it delivered because if the milkman was late there was not always somebody at home to take it in as soon as it arrived and on occasion it could be left sitting out all day. Milk sitting out all day is NOT a good thing! The discontinuation of milk delivery pretty much coincided with the time when it became common for women to continue working after marriage and kids. It wasn't because of cost factors but because nobody was home to take it in! It's making a comeback though, as there are now cheap insulated storage options that are effective at keeping milk cold for up to six hours at a time. We get ice cream delivered to our home once a fortnight, my mother orders ALL her groceries online and has them delivered to her door. It's only more expensive if you buy most things generic brand.

Well, not all milk goes to be fresh milk - some gets treated with Ultra High Temperature (UHT), some gets turned into powdered stuff, some for milk based products, (puddings, sauces, milkshakes, etc,) and the milk that's fresh milk gets taken to factories, is super chilled, bottled or cartoned up and stays fresh as long as it's refridgerated

The milk gets pasturied which in turn kills all the bugs and germs in it, and then it can be bottled in a germ free environment and then sent to the shops. Once you open the milk it will start to go off, and as you know if you open milk and leave it for a long time it really starts to stink. The sell by/use by is that long because the milk won't really start going off untill it is opened and exposed to the ouside air....

Depends on how it is stored. If in sealed, cold, containers it will not develop bad bacteria. If left in the open in a warm place it will go "off" quickly. Milk has to be refrigerated to keep it fresh - but it copes well with this condition.

fresh milk is very fattening and still has the chance to contain bacteria from not being pasturized. Fresh milk last for a while if held properly.

Milk is pasteurized which means it is heated at 60 degrees Celcius for 15 minutes or 72 degrees celcius for 30 minutes to kill bacteria. the heated milk is kept in a very low temperature immediately.

the milk you buy in shops contains preservatives, lots of them! it is not natural milk, like everything in the world today.
natural milk can't last more than a couple of days.
fresh milk becomes yogurt!
by the way, i use to let milk turn into yogurt! and it is excellent!

It is quicky frozen to kill or bring down bacteria which exist in milk
