Should I write a Thank You note for receiving a Christmas Bonus? If the Bonus is an item rather than "a check"? What is appropriate?

If your Christmas bonus item is part of what your company provides, then a verbal to your boss is more appropriate. This is something that he/she feels you have earned and your appreciation to him/her in person would mean a lot more. I work for a company where we are all entitled to a quarterly bonus that is combined with the company's performance and our own personal performance; to which I have gotten each time. I always thank my boss verbally, which is how she has informed me that "we" met our goals and what grade she gave me on the evaluation.

If it is a personal "extra" from your boss, a handwritten note from you would be appropriate in this instance.

Thank you notes are not written enough these days so I think the boss would appreciate it. Nothing to gushy or personal. Even is the bonus is a check, being polite is always appropriate!

It would be appropriate if everyone received the bonus. If not, it might look like you are sucking up. A verbal thank you is more appropriate.

A card saying thank you.... that is what is appropriate.
