When somebody insults you they are trying to get a reaction. Either don't react at all, as if they never spoke to you or be unfailingly sweet and polite to them. It will make them crazy after a while and they'll end up leaving you alone in time.

Hey, I just saw that happen the other day while playing cards online here with Yahoo....it does happen all the time, but this girl answered her partner's remark with "Thank you". Quite a ball buster, when he was hoping for more of a fight. Stopped him dead in his tracks. I thought it was pretty funny. Well that's my opinion.

Tell them to 'feck off' as the Irish say - it's not officially recognised as a proper swear word, so you won't get into trouble! Then add on something about their appearance e.g. 'feck off fatty/lanky/short ar$e' etc.
