Forget the creams and salves. Buy a bunch of bananas and eggs. Eat a banana and save the peel. Put the inside of the peel against the burned skin. If you need more, offer everyone in the family a banana and keep the peels to coat your burn. It will take away the pain of the burn and usually thwart peeling.
If it happened within the past 8 hours, put an egg white on the burn and try to keep it from slipping off for at least 10 minutes. If you have an egg at room temperature, that would be even better. By the next day, the redness should be gone and you won't have any peeling skin, either.
Nobody knows why these both work, but they do.

While some folks on here have some great topical suggestions that work well for taking care of the burn, I found that regular, over the counter ibuprofen helped me when I got a nasty sunburn while on a cruise in the Caribbean.

you prob won't beleive this but I sware to everything holy or what ever but the best thing in the world is.........Diaper rash cream. I swear it works I use it all the time on my whole family. My little girl is so light skinned all she has to do is cross the stree and she is burnt but diaper cream cotes the burn it soaks in and keeps it moist so the skin don't dry out and start to feel, it takes the burn and reddness out almost over night. The minute any of us start to turn red I use it and my little girl was not so white any more because it also helps tan.
And it is all your for the low price of what ever gas cost to get to the drug store.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sorry about that but I kind of sounded like I was selling you something. LOL Any way it really does work.

I am very light-skinned and burn easily; I use vitamin E cream, preferably with aloe. I don't use any specific brand - just whatever the pharmacy has seems to work nicely.

Aloe Vera
Natural yoghurt
Cucumber mush (Vital that is freshly grated or chopped)
All of the above will take the heat out and rehydrate your skin - thus avoiding peeling later (hopefully)

fresh aloe and peach leaves. You can apply the alloe first then cover with whole peach leaves, or you can grind the leaves with the aloe in a mortor until it becomes a paste, and then just slap it on.
