Really, you could even drink just hot water, and it would help. It moistens your passageways, and breaks up phlegm, and keeps your body hydrated. What more could you ask for.

I can recommend a great tea that either really works, or creates a nice "placebo" effect. Plus it tastes good. If you really feel like going out to the healthfood store while you are sick, here is the name: Yogi brand "Green Tea with Cat's Claw and Kombucha".

I sold it at my coffeehouse, and my customers swore by its healing properties. I just thought it tasted good, and couldn't prove the health benefits.

Regardless of whether you drink tea or hot water, I would put a sprinkle of salt, a teaspoon of sugar, and the juice of 1/2 lime or lemon. It'll make you feel better! If you want to sleep, put a shot of brandy in there too....but NOT if you are taking cold medicine.

I would stick to something herbal, and you would drink it mostly for the fluids (add a little honey to coat the throat.) Real tea (green, black, oolong, or white) is rather acidic, and not really good for queasy stomachs. If it is a cold, than any will do. Black takes doctoring the best (sugar, milk) while green contains the most antioxidants which are very good for you.
