It is true that Americans seem divided if you pay attention to all the bad news, but this is a myth. The good news is always under reported because it doesn't garner the same ratings. One of the issues with a free society is the right to dissent, so you will always have some division, but when the chips are down Americans find a way to pull together for the common good. We are facing threats in the world, but we are no where close to self destruction. Several periods in American history were much more dire than today. Review the histories of the Civil War and The Great Depression if you doubt this. It is easy to look upon our own times with an elitist view as though we are experiencing something worse than those who came before us, but it is unrealistic and born simply of our perceived suffering. America's greatest days are still ahead.

I would hope that your question is of concern and not opinion.
Our country is based on varied opinion of leadership. This is just a cycle we are going through. War brings out debate. Until we all as a country accept the fact that there are people out there that want to kill us at least , take over us at best, we cannot seem to be together on a way to win. Politicians in general need to remember who they represent and voters need to realize who these politicians are that buy their way into office. As far as survival of this country, we are far from self destruction.

Not necessarily, but like all great empires before it, it certainly will not last forever. Think of the Assyrians, the Babylonians, the Egyptians, the Greeks, the Romans, the Byzantines, the Ottoman Turks, the British .... and you can see where the US will also eventually head.

I agree including your "very smart guy".... u . s . of america is self-destructing from the right down, in my opinion. a lot means has been relinquished with the aid of the people and given to the government that u . s . of america is the different way up from what the Founding Fathers had meant. as quickly as we upload to this the incontrovertible fact that we've an administration that relatively believes that that's conscious of terrific the thank you to spend our money than we do ourselves that's a recipe for catastrophe. vast government is the subject, no longer the answer in u . s . of america. to avert a entire give way, u . s . of america needs to return to the founding concepts that made u . s . of america super interior the 1st place. it fairly is the only way that we are able to avert the self-destruction of which you communicate. We could quit the self-damaging habit further approximately with the aid of a self-damaging ideology. We could as quickly as lower back grow to be a rustic that freely submits itself to God (... one united states of america under God..) and places their faith in God (In God we have faith). u . s . of america became into according to Judeo-Christian concepts and those concepts are under relentless attack with the aid of the media and the present administration. My faith is in God and the yankee people who comprehend and love the concepts that guided the Founders while they created our shape. i've got self assurance that the style of those individuals is expanding, for this reason i've got self assurance that we've motives to be hopeful.

America has been around for over 200 years and is the only last remaining military superpower. Possible, but so is an alien invasion from another galaxy - just not very likely.

Naaah ... each generation thinks the end is near but it never is. In 100 years from now I predict it will be business as usual - only the environmental conditions will have deteriorated significantly.
