Hopefully all religions will eventually become obsolete.

No, it's not just a phase; man needs to have some sort of faith in order to try and make sense of life and to feel that there's some reason for it all. Nature is so amazing and has to be governed by something/someone far greater than human beings. Some years ago, the churches in the UK were full each Sunday, it was an unwritten law that families went to church - it was a way of life. Now, it's sad to say that most churches have extremely small congregations. As the UK has moved away from this way of life, so we have seen a decline in behavior and social relations: more illegitimacy, crime and delinquency, welfare dependency, alcohol and drug abuse, suicide, depression, and less general self-esteem. These aren't just my words, they're facts - you only have to look around you. It's the opinion of many that you don't necessarily have to go to church to follow a religion; certainly each of us can study the religious books and try to practise their teachings in our everyday life. But going to a place of worship is a commitment - a way of taking time out for what we believe - for God. I think there will be a move back to religion eventually, but will it be Christian I wonder? NOTE. Books like the one by Dawkins, are the thoughts of mere men - they're not all-knowing, it's just theory - nobody on earth can really KNOW the truth, hence the word 'faith'!

Religion...it annoys some people and some people lean on it like a crutch.
Some people find it helpful to learn and many good things can be learned in a church, You may even hear a particularly great sermon. Plus the support of other similar thinking people, as some like the feeling of being in a group, and it's activities.
The down side of "religion" is that some of them are controlling; telling a person what to believe, what to think, and imposing man made rules. Some do not encourage a person to check out their teachings; but to just accept them, because the "church" tells you to.
Since I've had personal experience in churches, I've come to the realization, for me, that I have become more "spiritual", but not "religious", and have a closer relationship with God and with Christ. There was much disappointment in organized religion, and I am happy with studying and proving all things, without any interpretation from a church. In answering your question, it's not a phase, BUT I think there is much disappointment, in many people, as they see that lots of churches are run like a business, ($$$$$) don't teach spirituality, have man made rules that don't come from the Bible, etc...So, I agree with you, "we are growing out of it"... and the reason is that, as many things are happening in the world, some people are looking for REAL answers, real truth, and have lost their faith in many things, including some of the churches. They believe, as I do, that we can individually find God, and learn more about the truth, by reading the Bible, and finding true spirituality on our own.
Hope this helps..

Religion can be of 2 kinds:
Temporary: Has a beginning and end, appear in some culture, teach some moral and a bit about the Lord, appears in country and in a certain time, and degrades and dissolves.
Spiritual: Religion that speak what we really are and who God is, His names, His address, how to get there and love Him and we don't have to return to be born or die again in this material nature. This Religion is Eternal, exist before and will exist after the creation, Religion of the soul.

Religion is not a phase, it's what you choose to be the correct teachings that are inspired of God, The Bible didn't specify which religion you are to follow. If you follow the 10 commandments then I think you'll be okay with God. Religion is a faith that will be around forever.

No its not a phase because people are stupid and always need to believe in something, if a spiritual religion goes then science will be the new religion and someone like Einstein will be God, won't that be fun, people are just stupid

Religious feeling, beliefs and experiences probably have something to do with peoples brains which we all have the potential for. As we understand more about our brains it could probably be identified and dealt with, whether or not the religious would want to give up their belief is a different question.

A Phase?
HMMMMMM.
I think you might be onto something there. It explains a great many things.
I always thought it was a practical joke that went to far, like dropping cherry bombs in the high school toilets.
Your point could be made by one simple question.
That being... Where is Zeus?
