This has nothing to do with my posture as the symptoms persist whenever other people use a cellphone in my proximity. Trains are the worst.

The problem is many people aren't sensitive to the radiation, which doesn't mean it's safe or unsafe.
You may also find they have affected your short term memory and recent use can affect your ability to make logical decisions, especially "just outside the square" decisions.
There are two basic options: 1) Don't use one or go near someone who is using one; 2) Use a modern cellphone which uses a system like CDMA or GSM, uses the highest available frequencies, and only in areas where there are lots of cellphone towers. Using it near a cellphone tower or in a high tower density area is the best way to lower the required transmit power of the cellphone, by using higher frequencies you lower the power requirement a bit more, as does using GSM or CDMA.
I suspect some cellphones use a "strobe" technique of transmitting, a bit like a camera electronic flash, which enables them to get more range with less power. All I can suggest is you try a different manufacturer.
Also, I suspect some cellphone shops actually have cellphone transmitters inside them, pity the poor staff.

I don't know the definitive answer to that. If you hold your hand in the same position without the cell phone in there, does it give the same symptoms? There are disorders that can give that pain pattern apart from having a phone there.
Does changing the type of phone make a difference? Some people have reported symptoms when they have one type of phone and not when using another.

We are surrounded everyday by things that man has made (or nature for that matter) that aren't safe. Plastics, building materials, electronic devices, etc.. these all contain chemicals, electromagnetic fields, etc that aren't good for us. With all the benefits there are also drawbacks. That is true of everything in our society. The balance is weighed by benefit vs risks. Some of these you must decide for yourself.

Maybe it's the way you are using it? Are you all crunched up? Look at your body mechanics. Maybe it's not the phone, maybe it's you.
