Hi Grace,

Yes. I inherited a Maine Coon Cat, and he had been a house cat and not allowed out. I live in a rural area, and lots of room. I let him go out, and he loves the outdoors. I placed his litter box in the bathroom for when he is indoors.

His name is Martin and he had a mate, named Cloey, but she ventured out on the lake Ice and broke through and lost her. Still not over that. I felt really bad like it was my fault, but my ex wife explained to me that I gave her something she never knew before . . . . I gave her freedom, and she loved it, . . . .right to the end.

I found her body and brought her ashore and buried her. I buried her in my leather jacket so she would never be cold again.

My cat goes out in the day and sleeps in the house at night. When she wants to go out, she sits at the door and gives me this look. I ask what she wants and she scratches at the door and meows. When she wants back in, she "knocks" (jumps at the door so I can hear her out there. Another always has to watch me take a shower and has learned to open the door. She also has to be brushed when I'm getting ready in the mornings.

The cat I had growing up with do that. He would stand on the heater with his head stuck by the door and meow and meow until you let him out. My new cat I got this summer is an indoor cat and doesn't try to get out or anything ever.

I've learned that cats don't like closed doors. Period.

Doesn't matter if it's the washroom, the front door, the garage door, the basement door, whatever. If a door is closed in my house the bottom of it gets clawed and ruined by my torti.

How many times have you walked out of the washroom and tripped over your cats? Too many for me.

what you mean like going to the back door, seeing that it's raining, and going to the front door to see if it's raining there as well? Or insisting on having the front door opened for them first thing in the morning even though we have a perfectly servicable cat flap, or insisting on sitting in between me and my husband on the sofa regardless of how little space there is, and if one of us isn't sitting on the sofa giving us dirty looks until we sit in our proper places, oh yes, the list goes on.

Dear gracealon***

I am not even allowed to close the door to any room in my duplex. If I do , they sit outside meeeeoooowing and scratching on the door and if I don't hurry up, my baby jumps up to the handle....... he is only a year old and weighs 13kg.

As I do not let them outside at all, nasty people outside, and if I do a little bit of gardening, they run to the dining room window and try and communicate to me by hitting eat other so I run in and break up their squabble.!!!!!

Feeding is a nightmare as I have to have five bowls ready at the same time in their favourite spots!!!!!
hee!hee!
they are my life.................................

My cat sits at the bathroom door and hammers on it with his paws til you let him in. And when he gets in he gets in the bathtub until you leave, then he leaves with you.
